We keep this hung in our department lobby because we believe it.

Partnership with area schools keep staff ready to respond in an emergency.

Partnership with other agency's School Resource Officers keep students safe.

Partnership with evolving training programs keep our officers educated & prepared.

Partnership with community groups to call on for crisis support.

Partnership with area businesses create engagement opportunities.

The list goes on.

Now, more than ever, it takes a village. We appreciate the support and any opportunity to foster new relationships.

Current staffing often has the city patrolled by only four officers. One of those is a supervisor, who handles administrative duties for the squad at the police department in addition to responding to calls for service.

Many of the calls we respond to require a two officer response. At minimum staffing, two "average" calls for service can tie up the entire squad.

Even with our current full squad staffing, which is six officers for a shift (again, one is a supervisor), a serious crash or resource intensive incident can take the entire squad out of service, leaving lower priority calls to remain pending and higher priority calls to be turned over to neighboring agencies, which can lead to extended response times.

If you have questions about the proposed Walker Public Safety millage, please ask an officer or visit walker.city/publicsafetymillage .

Public open house dates will be announced soon as well.

POLICE ACTIVITY: DEATH INVESTIGATION

Just before noon today (9/1), a deceased subject was located in a wooded area west of the Alpine and Hillside intersection.

Preliminary investigation shows cause of death appears to be self-inflicted. There is no threat to the general public.

Further information about the deceased cannot be released at this time as we work to notify family. Additional details may be available at a later time.

Great work, all!

If you push dangerous drugs and illegal fi****ms into our communities, we will find you, shut down your operation, and put you in jail.

Following a months-long investigation into drug trafficking, KCSO detectives assigned to the Kent Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (KANET), with assistance from WEMET, MSP K9, and the Muskegon Police Department, executed search warrants at two Muskegon residences.

Detectives seized approximately 372 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, 71 grams of suspected co***ne, 27 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 124 suspected amphetamine pills, $19,360 in cash, three ri**es, and two handguns.

Critical incident? Large community event?

Either way - you may see our mobile command center there, as this vehicle serves many purposes depending on what’s going on.

- It can transport our special response team & their specialized equipment to a call out.

- For incidents that involve extended on scene time or investigation, it serves as a mini police department where search warrants can be typed, witnesses interviewed and other work completed more efficiently, eliminating the need to run back & forth to the actual station and reducing time areas are closed to the general public.

- For larger events, it serves as a hub for all city operations: monitoring weather conditions, displaying other calls for service in the area that could effect the event and giving city staff a place to grab a quick break from the elements.

* One of the more unique uses? During a past winter storm that caused a major pile up on the highway, we had this ready to move those involved off the highway to a safer, more suitable area to make further arrangements.
