🚧 FULL ROAD CLOSURE – THORNAPPLE RIVER DR SE BRIDGE 🚧
Please be advised that a full road closure of the Thornapple River Dr SE Bridge is scheduled to accommodate the installation of the new pedestrian bridge adjacent to Legacy Park.
📅 Closure Begins: Friday, June 19 at 6:00 PM
📅 Anticipated Reopening: Saturday, June 20 by 3:00 PM
⚠️ No vehicular, bicycle, or pedestrian access across the bridge will be permitted during this closure.
Detour Information:
➡️ Traffic traveling south of the closure will be detoured via Laraway Lake Drive to Cascade Road.
➡️ Traffic traveling north of the closure will be detoured via Ada Drive or Fulton Street.
This temporary closure is necessary to safely complete a major milestone in the Thornapple River pedestrian bridge project.
Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted detour signage.

The Patterson Avenue project between 36th Street and 44th Street is complete! Work involved a 6-inch partial-depth mill and fill, removing 4 inches of existing concrete white topping and 2 inches of underlying HMA, which was replaced with two courses of hot mix asphalt. The work also included spot curb and gutter replacement and permanent pavement markings. Contractor: Rieth-Riley

Today, a West Michigan convoy departed for Coldwater to join road agencies from across Michigan in a funeral procession honoring our fallen brother, Casey Rice.
Casey was a Branch County Road Commission employee who died from injuries sustained when a semi-truck struck his tractor while he was mowing along I-69.

We honor Casey's life, service and dedication to his community. Our thoughts are with Casey's family, friends, coworkers and community.

Please honor Casey's memory by slowing down, staying alert and giving roadside workers the space they need to do their jobs safely. Remember that every work zone is staffed by people with families, friends and coworkers who expect them to return home safely at the end of the day.

"Can semi-trucks make it through a roundabout?"

We hear that question a lot, so we sent two semi-trucks through the new roundabout at 10 Mile Road and Pine Island Drive.

Chuck Porter, a Courtland Township trustee and owner of Porter Farms, drove one of the trucks and admitted he was concerned about the curbs before entering the roundabout. He quickly found there was "plenty of room" to make the turns. Both drivers described the roundabout as easy to navigate, plenty wide for big rigs and well suited for commercial traffic.

The new roundabout at 10 Mile Road and Pine Island Drive is now open to traffic.

Work to reconstruct the intersection into a commercial-grade roundabout included splitter islands, HMA pavement, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, ditching, ADA ramps, pavement markings, sidewalk connections and site restoration.

Temporary lighting has been installed, with permanent street lighting to be completed by Consumers Energy.

The project was completed by KCRC's contractor, Dean's Excavating.

Project reminder: Intersection improvement work at the intersection of 84th Street and Cherry Valley Avenue began this weekend. Work includes lowering the existing hill to the East, raising the intersection, widening for left turn lanes, sidewalk and shared use path improvements, and installation of a new traffic signal. Intersection work is being completed under a closure of the 84th and Cherry Valley Avenue intersection and the 84th and Valley Point intersection. This project is being completed in coordination with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to rebuild 2.7 miles of M-37 (Broadmoor Avenue) in Caledonia Township. The project involved cold milling the existing roadway, followed by the placement of two courses of hot mix asphalt (HMA) and installation of permanent pavement markings. As KCRC constructs two roundabouts this construction season, now is a great time to review how to safely navigate them.

Roundabouts are designed to improve safety and keep traffic moving, but understanding the basics helps everyone get the most out of their benefits.

✔️ Slow down as you approach
✔️ Yield to pedestrians and traffic already in the roundabout
✔️ Travel counterclockwise to your exit
✔️ Treat bicyclists like other vehicles and do not pass them in the roundabout
✔️ If an emergency vehicle approaches, exit the roundabout before pulling over
