April 18th:

Approximately around 7:17 pm central time, tones dropped for a semi vs car on 30 and 23 at that intersection. Upon arrival the driver of the black vehicle was entrapped. Hamlet fire and Washington fire was first on scene followed by Rescue 13. Later we noticed that another vehicle was involved. Both sides of 30 were shut down due to a helicopter landing which didn’t happen. The driver was transported to the hospital with a broken arm at the time. We are not aware if he has any more injury’s. The driver of the semi was not hurt along with the driver of the third vehicle involved.

We would like to thank Hamlet Fire and Washington Fire for assisting us along with Howard’s towing for being available 24/7.

April 5th:

Approximately at 2:44 pm tones dropped for a roll over on highway 30 and 750 E. The car had hit some pot holes and ended up flipping upside down while hitting a pole all being air bound. We had to call in med flight to transfer and shut down 30 on both sides. We are hoping and praying that the people that were transported are okay. We would like to thank Washington and Hamlet fire department for getting to this accident as fast as they can and helping out.

Thank you for being patient with us while the highway was shut down. Also please be careful with these pot holes on 30.

Happy Easter everyone! From your favorite fire department. 😉

Please be careful if you’re going out.

Our Plow Drivers have been out since 4:00 AM CST this morning. What we are experiencing is that every part of Starke County has different snow total amounts and some drifting in several areas. North of US 30 and East of 900 E. has had on and off, white out conditions, with over a foot of snow in certain areas. We have pulled our plow drivers out of the Koontz Lake area until visibility increases. However, we will return to Koontz Lake today as soon as the conditions get better. Please use extreme caution if there is a need for you to travel in the Koontz Lake area today.

Along with Starke County EMA and County Officials, the decision has been made to keep our county at the current level of travel “WATCH” (Orange). A travel status pertains to the county in a whole, it cannot be designated to just one area. We will continue to monitor the situation and revisit the travel status as needed.
