On 9/25/26 nigh shift, WWPD officers were dispatched to a burglary in the 800 block of Pleasant St. Officers determined the burglary occurred on 9/10/26 based on video evidence. The video evidence led officers to identify the suspect as 43-year-old Walla Walla man, Derek Cole. Derek Cole is well known to officers.

Derek returned twice to the location and stole about $1,000 worth of tools.

Later in that same shift at approximately 0600 hours (morning of 9/26), WWPD responded to a burglary at a local church in the 2100 block of Fern Ave. Upon arriving on scene, officers discovered about $1,700 worth of tools were stolen. This burglary had just occurred that night.

Officers reviewed footage from the location and identified this burglar also as Derek Cole. Derek rode the same bicycle and wore the same clothing as the earlier burglary from the 10th.

Derek Cole arrived at the church three separate times overnight, returning with a vehicle he ultimately loaded up with $1,700 worth of stolen tools. Officers also know Derek Cole’s vehicle well and have arrested him from the same vehicle.

In addition to the tools he had already stolen from the church that night, Derek Cole, on his third trip, broke into the church’s offering box.

Officers located Derek Cole’s vehicle at his known residence. Officers were granted a search warrant and Derek Cole was arrested from his residence. In addition to Derek Cole’s arrest, officers recovered all the church’s stolen property. About $350 worth of the stolen property from the Pleasant St burglary was recovered.

Derek Cole was booked into the Walla Walla County Jail for:
- Burglary 2nd degree
- Residential Burglary
- Theft 2nd degree (2 counts)
- Malicious Mischief 3rd degree
