Donny Guerrero and Norma Soto have supported BMHTH for a decade now, and it was supposed to be a surprise for Molina’s executives to award us $10,000 toward our behavioral health work in the region.

Only the event was during my vacation. So I sent a colleague. She didn’t find the party at the venue complex, and came home.

Today they were to bring the check to our office, but the state highway shut down for hours due to a wildfire. They rerouted, had to charge up, slip into another state and hook back around, then we finally connected.

So, I’m glad we at last rendezvoused successfully! But we are all grateful for the support of our work. Partners like Molina remind us that behavioral health is a village. Thank you so much.

Our offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth celebrates the date of June 19, 1865, when enslaved people of African descent located in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from the slavery system in the United States. For those of us in public health, Juneteenth gives us time to reflect on how how systemic racism continues to affect health care outcomes, access, and community wellbeing.

We are excited to receive $250,000 from Sherwood Trust to build a classroom suite in support of launching the Center for Rural Responses to Substance Use. BMHTH has raised roughly $3.45M of the expected $4.2M we need for this renovation, so Sherwood Trust’s support brings us a good way closer to beginning both phases of the work. Many thanks to our local and regional partners for their support!

Sherwood Trust awarded more than $880,000 in 2026 to local health and child care organizations including Mano a Mano and Blue Mountain Heart to Heart.
