Valley Residential Services

Valley Residential Services Serving developmentally disabled adults and homeless veterans and providing family support services.

Valley Residential Services is a community based non-profit organization offering supported living, transitional housing and family services in Walla Walla and Columbia counties, Washington. Supported Living is a program of the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration. We assist developmentally disabled adults to live as independently as possible in their own homes and be active

in the community. Veterans Transitional Housing, also known as CORD (Corps of Recovery Discovery), provides temporary housing and social services for veterans as part of a federal Veterans Affairs initiative to eliminate homelessness among those who have served their country. We also provide consulting for families with behaviorally-challenged children and supervised visitation for clients of the state's Division of Child and Family Services.

Over the weekend, our crew braved the cold, wind, and even a tent blowing down at the Ducky Derby with the Exchange Club of Walla Walla, but that did not stop the fun! Our staff had a great time playing games with the kids, handing out free cotton candy, and connecting with the community. Kayla was also there selling her new larger-sized coloring book.

Despite the weather, it was a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about Valley Residential Services, share some smiles, and enjoy a fun community event together. We appreciate everyone who stopped by to visit us!

A big thank-you to Walmart College Place for a $1,000 grant to support our program!

Because of this support, we’re able to help cover our weekly cooking and craft classes, giving the people we serve more chances to be creative, build skills, and connect with others. These classes are open to all individuals with disabilities ages 14 and up, and we’re excited to keep them going.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nancy Riggle Announces Retirement After Nearly 48 Years with Valley Residential Services

Walla Walla, WA — April 13, 2026 — After nearly 48 years of service, Nancy Riggle, longtime leader of Valley Residential Services (VRS), has announced her retirement, effective December 31, 2026.

Riggle began her career in residential services at age 20 and has spent decades advancing community-based living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under her leadership, VRS grew from a single group home model into a multifaceted organization providing Supported Living services, family and children’s programs, and housing and support for veterans.

“Nancy’s impact on this community is immeasurable,” said Board President, Linda Brown. “She built more than programs, she built a culture of dignity, independence, and respect.”

Throughout her career, Riggle remained committed to hands-on leadership, often working directly alongside staff and the individuals served. She helped pioneer tenant support services in Washington State and played a key role in developing innovative programs, including in-home family support and housing for homeless veterans.

Reflecting on her career, Riggle shared, “This has been my life. I love the people we support, and I love the staff. It’s been a love affair. But it’s time.”

Valley Residential Services is now one of the largest employers in Walla Walla County and continues to provide essential, person-centered services across the region.

As VRS looks to the future, the Executive Director position is now open and posted on the organization’s website. Individuals interested in leadership opportunities or supporting the mission are encouraged to visit www.valleyresidential.org.

Valley Residential Services (VRS) provides individualized education and support in a safe, comfortable home environment to adults with developmental disabilities; to veterans who need housing and rehabilitation opportunities; and case-specific education and support to parents and children working toward safe and stable family relationships.

Our vision is that of a compassionate community where everyone has a postive, healthy environment in which to thrive and belong.
