Council Members are elected on a non-partisan, at-large basis to staggered, four-year terms. Council Members elect one of their peers to serve as Mayor for a two-year term. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council to act as the chief executive officer. The City of Walla Walla provides a full range of municipal services for the community. The services and systems for police, fire, ambulance, public works, parks and recreation, library, cemetery, sanitation, water, sewer, are all part of the municipal government.

Both publications provide useful news and updates to ensure residents are informed, but each has a different approach and focus.

The eNewsletter is designed for all community members, featuring short items that recap City events from the past month, highlight staff involvement in our community, provide project updates, and mention upcoming programs and events in our area.

The City Central newsletter has useful information for Walla Walla city residents, with longer articles that explore local issues, preview library and Parks and Rec events, explain City policies and regulations, answer questions from residents, and detail upcoming and completed Public Works projects. City Central is posted as PDFs, with English and Spanish versions available.

Residents can sign up to receive an email or text message when each publication is posted. We’re getting ready to send another wonderful group of students to our sister city, Tambasasayama! Our students and chaperones will be departing soon, and we’re excited to help them share a little bit of Walla Walla with our friends in Japan.

Cambridge Drive between Wilbur Avenue and University Drive will be closed beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 a.m. through Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at 5 p.m. for utility work by a private contractor. Emergency vehicles will not have access. Pedestrians and local residents will have access.

Notice of 15-day public comment period and public hearing:

The City of Walla Walla’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has the 2025 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) available to solicit comments and input regarding an overall evaluation of federally funded activities and accomplishments in the fields of housing and community development from the CDBG program in the past Program Year, 2025.

The CAPER is available for review on the city’s website: https://www.wallawallawa.gov/government/development-services/community-development-block-grant

Copies of the report are also available upon request at the City of Walla Walla Development Services Department, 55 E. Moore St., Walla Walla; by calling 509-527-4496; or by emailing [email protected]. The deadline for submitting comments is Oct. 12, 2026, through the above means.

Additionally, the City of Walla Walla will hold a public hearing for CDBG on Oct. 14. 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 15 N. 3rd Ave, Walla Walla, as an additional means to solicit comments and input regarding the CAPER.

Council Chambers is ADA accessible. Additional requests for meeting accommodations can be made through the above contact information or by calling 509-524-4540 at least two business days prior to the hearing. Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing may make a request by calling the Washington State Relay at 711.

Palouse Street between L Street and Juniper Street will be closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 25-30, for utility work by a City contractor.

Preservation work to begin on three bridges on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026 —

The Clinton Street bridge will undergo preservation work beginning on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, lasting approximately two weeks. Repairs will include the bridge deck, sidewalk and railings. The bridge will be fully closed to vehicles and pedestrians, with no access. Local access will remain open except in the immediate bridge area. Detours will use Boyer Avenue, Merriam Street, Alder Street, and Division Street.

The Myra Road and Tausick Avenue bridges will undergo preservation work beginning on Monday, Sept. 28. The polyester overlay work will last approximately one week. One-way flagging will be in place during active work periods. At all other times, the bridges will be open to two-way traffic, with lanes narrowed and shifted as needed.
