Big thanks to our amazing College Place High School student volunteers!

Sometimes the work that makes the biggest difference happens behind the scenes. Our CPHS volunteers recently brought order, organization, and purpose to several areas of the YWCA.

They reorganized our linen closet for safer, more accessible storage.

They gave our Persimmon People new message outfits so these colorful ambassadors are ready to represent our mission in the community.

They sorted, organized, and inventoried our holiday wrapping supplies to prepare for the season ahead.

This work may happen behind the scenes, but it matters. Organized, accessible supplies help our staff spend less time searching and more time serving, while safer, more functional spaces benefit everyone.

Thank you, CPHS students, for your hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to help wherever needed. You made a tangible difference and helped the YWCA get organized, get ready, and keep moving forward. We couldn’t do it without community-minded volunteers like you! 💜

Jenniffer is at the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic health fair at Family Medical Center today until 6 pm at 1120 W Rose St. in Walla Walla. The event offers free health information, dental screenings, immunizations, blood pressure checks, $10 sports physicals, family activities, and free food.

Jenniffer has a big pile of books and information about YWCA services and would love to say hi!

🚲 A bike. A mom. Two little passengers. And a chance at a home.

👉[SPOILER ALERT: See the comments for some happy news about that mom!]

A YWCA client is working toward something big: independent housing for herself and her two young children. She doesn’t have a car—but she does have a bike, determination, and a real opportunity to build a life of her own.

What she needs is a safe way to bring her preschooler and kindergartner along. A two-child bicycle trailer could help turn that bike into transportation for the whole family—and help make independent living possible.

We’d love to find this family a CoPilot Model A bicycle trailer or a comparable two-child trailer in good condition. (This particular model is designed to safely carry two children and gear.)

This is what community looks like. 💜

A few of the small businesses in Walla Walla that have partnered with the YWCA to raise funds for survivors are featured here—and we are so grateful for every one of them.

Because when a local business chooses to host a fundraiser, donate a portion of sales, pass the hat, or simply invite its customers to learn more, it becomes part of something bigger: a community standing with survivors.

At the YWCA, we walk alongside women and families experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault with confidential, judgment-free support—including shelter, safety planning, advocacy, support groups, and help navigating the next steps toward safety and stability.

And we know that courage can look different for every survivor.

It can look like making a plan.
It can look like asking for help.
It can look like putting her children first.
It can look like taking one small step toward safety.
And sometimes, it looks like simply surviving today and knowing that tomorrow, there will still be someone there to help.

We honor every survivor for the courage it takes to navigate an incredibly difficult situation and make the choices that are right for her and her family.

And we honor the Walla Walla businesses, neighbors, organizations and donors who say, in their own ways, We believe you. We see you. You don't have to do this alone.

That is how a community creates safety, hope and opportunity.

A little comfort goes a long way. 💜[NOTE: The community is stepping up! See update in the comments.]

When someone arrives at our shelter, sometimes it’s the everyday things that help a new, unfamiliar place feel a little more like home.

We’re restocking our care-bag supplies, and we could use your help! We’re especially looking for full-size bottles of things you’d normally have in your bathroom at home:

🧴 Shampoo & conditioner
🫧 Bath gel/body wash
💜 Lotion
🪥 Toothpaste
✨ Deodorant
📝 Notebooks & pens
🍬 Small, nonperishable treats
🌈 Inspirational stickers or encouraging notes

We’re currently well stocked on razors and toothbrushes, so those can stay off your shopping list for now!

These bags are prepared for people staying in our shelter—often arriving with very little of their own. A fresh bottle of shampoo, a notebook to write in, or a little treat may seem like a small thing, but small comforts can make a big difference when someone is starting over.

If you’re doing a shopping trip this week, consider adding one or two items to your cart for a YWCA care bag. 💜

Today, we’re thinking about Dolly Parton—an empowered woman, a legend, and a humanitarian who showed the world that you never have to choose between being strong and being kind.

From humble roots in the Smoky Mountains to becoming one of the most recognizable women in the world, Dolly built a life—and a legacy—on her own terms. She gave working women an anthem with “9 to 5,” gave millions of children books through the Imagination Library, and somehow managed to make glamour, grit, generosity and a wicked sense of humor look effortless.

She reminded us that being a woman can mean being ambitious and compassionate, glamorous and grounded, successful and generous.

One of our favorite Dollyisms says it beautifully:

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

Thank you, Dolly, for showing generations of women what it looks like to take up space, work hard, dream big, give generously—and never lose your sparkle along the way.

The world is a little less sunshiney today without you in it. But goodness, Dolly, what a lot of light you left behind.
