Tonight, we welcome our newest officer, Steven Carpenter. During tonight’s Town Council meeting, Captain David Morgan presented Carpenter to the Council. Mayor Pro-Tem Rivas-Diaz administered the oath of office in front of a packed house.
Officer Carpenter comes to us with eleven years of law enforcement experience and an impressive resume full of various trainings and education. Carpenter is also a 22-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Sergeant. We are excited to welcome Officer Carpenter into the Wallace PD family.

Scammers in North Carolina are posing as U.S. Marshals and court officials. They claim you have an outstanding arrest warrant for missed jury duty or a federal offense. They demand immediate payment via prepaid cards, gift cards, or crypto. This is a complete scam. Law enforcement will never call to demand money. Help spread the word.

What Scammers Do
Fake Details: They use real names of local judges, actual badge numbers, and spoof caller ID numbers to look real.
High Pressure: They try to scare you with threats of immediate arrest if you hang up.
Demands for Cash: They ask for wire transfers, gift cards, or digital app payments (like Zelle or Venmo).

What You Should Do
Hang Up: Do not give any personal or financial details over the phone.
Do Not Pay: Never send money, gift cards, or crypto to anyone claiming to be a federal officer.
Verify the Claim: Contact your local federal court clerk's office directly to confirm whether a valid order exists.
Report the Scam: File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or report it via the FBI IC3 website.

Wallace PD joined other state and local law enforcement and public safety officials today at a news conference at the General Assembly in support of House Bill 328, Regulate Hemp-Derived Consumables.

The bill would prohibit anyone under 21 from purchasing products containing THC, among other changes to current law.

Sheriff Chip Hughes of Craven County, second vice president of the NC Sheriffs' Association, spoke at the event. Retired Chief Toby Harrison, president of the NC Association of Chiefs of Police, and District Attorney Andy Gregson, president of the NC Conference of District Attorneys, also delivered remarks.

North Carolina currently has no minimum age to purchase THC products. HB 328 would set one and give law enforcement additional tools to act against illegal sales of intoxicating h**p products.

Yesterday, at approximately 5:00 pm, Wallace PD responded to a structure fire at Glendale Village Ln. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of fire to Duplin County Communications and began evacuating adjoining apartments.

Shortly after, Wallace Fire Department arrived and began the fire attack. Mutual Aid departments began arriving and assisting with the fire. Wallace PD remained on scene, assisting with traffic and working with The American Red Cross to assist the four families that were displaced.

Once the fire was out, Wallace PD detectives and Duplin County Public Safety began investigating the fire’s cause and origin. It was quickly determined that the fire began on the bed in one of the bedrooms.

Tremendous job by all agencies. While there are families displaced by this fire and there was substantial property loss, lives were saved and a great deal of personal property was protected by a very quick knock down and preservation efforts.

We must thank our partners at Duplin County EMS for making sure all first responders and residents received top-notch care. They play such a critical in these incidents.
