🔥 Wheat Field Fires & Agricultural Burns – What to Know 🌾

Over the coming weeks, you may notice large columns of smoke rising across Duplin County. Don't be alarmed — this is a common sight during this time of year as farmers begin controlled burns in harvested wheat fields. These agricultural burns help remove leftover crop residue, manage pests, and prepare the land for the next planting season.

These fires are intentionally set and carefully managed to reduce wildfire risk and support local agriculture. However, they can produce a lot of visible smoke — sometimes enough to cause concern.

📞 If you ever believe a fire appears to be out of control or spreading beyond its intended area, don’t hesitate — call 911 immediately. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Neighbors protecting neighbors. Wallace Fire is fully staffed by professionally trained volunteers who live in the community they serve. Interested in joining? No prior training or experience required. We will train you. Apply at Town Hall or Townsend Auto Parts, or meet and greet with current firefighters at the station this Thursday at 7 PM.

Did you know that fire department ladders can support an impressive 750 pounds? Built for challenging situations, these ladders are vital for our safety! This week at Wallace Fire, our team has been honing their skills during ladder training. Last night was all about teamwork and improvement as we practiced ladder drills at our training grounds!

We are so proud of Bobby Hannah for completing the challenging Basic Firefighting Course at Cape Fear Community College! This 15-hour class covers ladders, SCBA, fire streams, hose practices, and other vital firefighting skills to help prepare firefighters for the job’s demands. At Wallace Fire, all new team members must complete this important course within their first year. Great work, Bobby!

ALL 100 tickets for the first grill have been SOLD!
Yes, that’s correct — we said the FIRST grill!

Because of all the support and interest, we have decided to raffle off ANOTHER grill.

The same rules apply:
$30 per ticket
Only 100 tickets will be sold

Tickets from the first 100 will not be mixed with the second 100.

If you would like to purchase tickets, feel free to PM us. We accept Venmo, Cash, or Check.

Please note: If all tickets for the second grill are not sold by Saturday, May 2nd, the drawing will not take place that day. The second grill will be drawn once all 100 tickets have been sold.

Last night a couple of our guys got together and did a basic pump class refresher. Having a good pump operator is a very crucial part of every fire scene, not only to protect our community but to ensure our firefighters are safe and protected also. Huge thank you to Wade Farrior to decide to teach this class and share his experience and knowledge with the rest of his fellow brothers!
