Saoirse gave a little love to Gadget and Jen following the death of Gizmo's Frens last Friday. Saoirse has spent hours of hours with grieving families in our 2-year partnership with The Cove Center for Grieving Children and my own grief living with a serious neurological disability and having been widowed at the age of 32. We at Soul Friends, Inc send a little love to all grieving families today on

Soul Friends is with Veterans K9Equine Alliance, with Saoirse, a star therapy horse we partner with for veteran family equine-assisted services—with gratitude for the generous hay donation to our nonprofit. The donation from the Veterans K9Equine Alliance not only provides sustenance for horses; free hay all day reduces boredom and provides comfort. Soul Friends equine therapy program for veteran families has demonstrated improved parent-child relationships after 6 sessions. In our Horses Inspire program, a teen in our veteran/first responder family session shared: "This program broke the chain of 3 or 4 generations of trauma." It is an honor to hear the life stories of veteran families and how horses can help normalize, demonstrate, and provide comfort in ways that foster new understanding. And we thank Veterans K9Equine Alliance for this new partnership in program support

Soul Friends honors the life of Gizmo's Frens, my little bestie. We shared a Chiari malformation, so we shared secrets about how to live with a neurological disability and change lives. Our last time together was just a few weeks ago; he melded into my side, and it was a moment without words. I had the honor of sharing our stories and memories with his mom, Jen Adams, on the day he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Sharing all his quiet heroic moments of healing, of kindness, and of encouraging change in how therapy dogs help others. Love from your Soul Friends .....

Dearest Soul Friend Gizmo's Frens a kiss and a hug on your journey to heaven and leaving with us and Jen your momma a legacy of healing comfort and joy. Your spirit is huge and showed up today in so many ways to comfort us. Rest easy dear friend your love is felt around the world today ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi Frens. It’s me, Gizmo. ❤️🐾

I have something very important to tell you, and I wish I could climb right through this screen, curl up beside every single one of you, and tell you myself.

It’s time for me to go to the Bridge. 🌈

My little body is tired now. It has carried me on a very, very big adventure. Much bigger than anyone might have expected from tiny lil me.

I got invited to sit beside people on their best days: birthday parties, graduations, awards ceremonies, weddings and even a citizenship ceremony! So much to celebrate!

And I was privileged to sit beside people on their hardest days. I got to visit people who were sick, scared, grieving, lonely, or just having a really rough day. I got to meet children who needed a fren, grown-ups who needed one too, and people who sometimes didn't even know they needed me until I climbed into their lap.

But do you know something?

You did the very same thing for me.

For all these years, you loved me. You celebrated my adventures. You worried when I was sick. You cheered when I got better. You laughed at my silliness. You shared my posts, supported the things we all believed in, and helped one teeny-tiny dog send kindness into places his little paws could never have reached without all of you.

You weren't just my followers.

You were my Frens.

Please know how very, very special you are to me and my mom. Gadget, too. There were days when your words carried us. There were times when your love reminded us that this precious little community we built together is something real in a world where real is rare.

So when you hear that I have gone to the Bridge, I don't want you to think only about the last day.
Think about all the days before it.

Think about the adventures.

Think about the people and animals we all helped together.

Think about the twerks and spinnies.

Think about my tiny paws and my great big attitude. 😂

Think about all the times we reminded each other that kindness matters.

And please don't worry about me.

I won't be scared.

I'll take all the love you've given me and carry it right across that Bridge with me. That's a LOT of love for a 3-pound dog to carry, so I might have to make a couple trips. ❤️

And before I go, I have one last GizLesson for you.

Don't wait to do something impactful.
I was tiny.
I didn't have money or power or fancy words. I couldn't fix the terrible things that sometimes happen in this world.
I could only show up.
I could sit with someone and just be present. I could make them smile. I could remind them that they mattered.

And it turned out that was enough to change things, even if just a tiny bit.

You can do that too.
Be the person who notices, ok?

Sit with someone who is hurting.

Tell people you love them while they're here to hear it.

Forgive when you can.

Be silly whenever possible.

And when the world feels too big and you feel too small to make a difference, remember me, your fren, Gizmo.
Sometimes the smallest among us can carry an enormous amount of love.

Thank you for giving me the most beautiful life a little dog could ever dream of.

Thank you for loving my mom and my pesky baby brudder, Gadget. I hope you will continue to join them in their adventures. I will always be there right inside your hearts.

And thank you, most of all, for being my Frens.

This isn't goodbye forever. It's just…
I'll see ya at the Bridge. 🌈🐾❤️

Until then, keep taking care of each other. Forevs. Cuz we're frens!

I love you forever,
Gizmo
Your Fren ❤️

Over the weekend, we welcomed three moms from Ronald McDonald House in New Haven to our Ponies & Pilates in Cheshire. Talking with them, along with our soon-to-join MSW intern Mary, reminded us of the value of community support from those who truly understand the lived experience of raising a child with medical needs or navigating special family circumstances as a young mom. My first husband was diagnosed with leukemia on my oldest son’s birthday, and on the day my second son was born, we learned Fran needed a bone marrow transplant. With recent news and doing somatic-based work, the importance of community for young moms hit me deeply. Mary and I are happy to answer questions for anyone interested—email [email protected] or call 203-679-0849.
