A part of the Wallingford Fire Department since the Burrough of East Wallingford and the Town of Wallingford consolodated, Company 8 traces its beginning back to 1893, when we were the East Wallingford Battalion of the Wallingford Agricultural Society. On February 14, 1944, the East Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department was organized to meet the needs of the "East Farms" district of Wallingford, u

nder the direction of newly named East Wallingford Volunteer Chief Everett Cooke. These founding members met and trained at the Whirlwind Hill Farm until a single bay firehouse was constructed on a lot made available by Mr. In 1980, to better serve the needs of the Town of Wallingford, the department moved to its current location, at 2 Kondracki Lane. The current station houses Engine 8, Engine 9, Squad 8 and Tanker 8. East Wallingford is an all volunteer station within the Wallingford Fire Department, a combination career/volunteer department.

There are areas of Wallingford which are not serviced by municipal water mains or fire hydrants. The East Side and North Farms volunteer stations operate tankers in order to bridge that water supply gap.

Saturday morning saw great weather and the opportunity to train with the on duty career shift on tanker operations. See the shared post from the main Wallingford FD page!

A great update from the main Wallingford Fire Department page!

East Side members took in four of the assignments mentioned, to include a structure fire, electrical hazard on a building, brush fire, and a medical emergency.

As always, our members are proud to serve the Wallingford Community, along side our brothers and sisters in the other WFD companies.

Apparatus Update: The East Side will be operating Rescue 10 in place of Squad 8 until our new vehicle is completed and delivered towards the end of 2026. After a fresh coat of wax and some equipment mounting, the unit went service this evening.

Rescue 10 is a spare vehicle which used to be designated Rescue 3. If you see Rescue 10 out on the road, be sure to say hello to the crews!

Many thanks to department chief officers for making Rescue 10 available to our company until the delivery of our new unit!

East Side members taking in another awesome live fire training burn with our brothers from the career side and the North Farms Volunteer Fire Department Inc. The evolutions were appropriate size-up, hose stretch and advancement, and rapid intervention team work on a basement fire.

Current Fire Department leadership in Wallingford continues to prove itself as forward thinking, progressive and supportive of its members which shows in these frequent and very well attended combined training sessions.

The East Wallingford Fire family is growing!!

Please join us in congratulating THREE of our members on their marriage engagements. Captain John Palumbo and his fiancé Ashlyn, Firefighter Chris Blanchard and his fiancé Salena, and Firefighter Vinny Franco and his fiancé Michaela recently shared their exciting news, and we couldn't be happier for them!

Ashlyn, Salena and Michaela are no strangers to the department, having dated their firefighters for a number of years. Bless them all for tolerating us!

We are all so excited these wonderful ladies have said yes to their men, and can't wait to see the awesome things the future holds for them!!!

After a morning of SCBA training the members were very excited to see our good friends from Wallingford CARES, who stopped by with pizza from Christo's. Every year the folks at Wallingford CARES drop off pizza to all of the Wallingford firehouses and the police department. Our community is awesome!

Calling all members, former members, and friends of the department.

We have received news that Tracey Bonet, wife of Hamden Firefighter Jaime Bonet, is fighting the hard fight against cancer. Jaime spent many years volunteering at East Wallingford before signing on as a career member with the Hamden Fire Department.

Jaime was an extremely passionate and dedicated volunteer during his time at East Wallingford, is an amazing friend, and served the Wallingford community with great pride. The Hamden Fire Department Union has released a shirt fundraiser in support of Tracey and Jaime, which is avaliable at the link below.

It's difficult to find meaningful ways to support our brothers and sisters when they face difficult times. This seems like a great way to let Tracey and Jaime know they are in our thoughts!

When communities need assistance with larger or more labor intensive incidents they will call for mutual aid from a neighboring department.

Back on February 11th of this year our brothers and sisters from North Branford Fire Department Company 2 covered our station during a long duration house fire in Wallingford. Today, members from the East Side were able to return the favor while North Branford FD battled a house fire in their town.

Quarterly activity check for your East Side Volunteers:

From January 1st to March 31st the members of East Wallingford have responded to 209 calls for service. These calls have included 138 medical emergencies, 23 motor vehicle accidents, 5 vehicle fires, 18 reported structure fires, and 25 service/other type calls.

Our members have also put in hundreds of hours of training, station duty hours and special activities.

An example of a special activity is the design and construction of a gear dry rack for our station. Commercially produced equipment can cost tens of thousands of dollars, but over the past couple of months our members were able to put this unit together for around $600.

We thank you all, our brothers and sisters from the other volunteer and career stations, and our department leadership for entrusting us with the responsibility of protecting our friends and neighbors in the greater Wallingford community!
