Last evening we were contacted by a local resident whose uncle was visiting from Slovakia. After serving more than 30 years as a firefighter before retiring, he asked to visit and tour our firehouse.

Visits like this are common when firefighters travel and are a valued part of the fire service brotherhood.

He was given a tour of our apparatus and firehouse. He was very interested in the differences in equipment and apparatus compared with those used in his home country and learned a little about how our department operates.

He was especially excited to see our rescue truck, which is built on a Volvo chassis—a common chassis for fire apparatus in many European countries.

Our brother from overseas left our firehouse with smile, good experience, and a department patch.

🚔👮 Wallington Junior Police Academy – Days 1–3 Recap! 👮🚔

What an incredible start to this year's Wallington Junior Police Academy! On Monday, we welcomed more than 75 recruits, making this our largest academy class ever! 🎉

Over the past three days, our recruits have:💪 Participated in daily physical training🇺🇸 Learned and practiced drill, ceremony, and marching🚓 Learned about the Wallington Police Department and the roles of police officers and detectives📞 Discovered the importance of police dispatchers👮 Explored what it takes to become a police officer

Our recruits have also had the opportunity to meet and learn from several outstanding law enforcement and public safety partners through engaging presentations and demonstrations, including:🐕 Bergen County Sheriff's Office K-9 & Bomb Squad💻 Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Office Cyber Crimes Task Force🚒 Wallington Fire Department 🇺🇸 FBI - Newark

Today, our company, along with the rest of the department, conducted a fire service presentation for the Wallington Police Department’s Junior Police Academy program.

The presentation consisted of three portions. The first was an in-person lecture that explained the wide variety of emergency services fire departments provide to their communities, the differences between volunteer and career fire departments, the rank structure of fire departments and the roles each rank plays at fire scenes, the different types of apparatus and their roles at fire scenes, and how the recruits can become part of our organization in the future if they wish.

The second portion consisted of a simulated structure fire. The recruits were able to observe, from point of arrival to the fire being placed under control, many of the operations that take place at a structure fire. This included simulated fire conditions and live fireground radio traffic. They were also able to see how the police department works alongside the fire department at emergency scenes and how quickly an emergency can become hectic, thanks to two volunteers from the police department who assisted.

In the final portion, recruits were given guided tours of our apparatus and equipment by company chauffeurs.
We hope we delivered a strong presentation for the Wallington Police Department and that the recruits gained valuable knowledge about the fire service. We look forward to seeing some of them in our ranks in the future!
