Congratulations to Plattekill Fire Department members FF Morales, FF McDonald, FF Barton, and FF Toth on your recent achievement of successfully completing and passing the State FF1 curriculum.

The first accomplishment wasn’t passing FF1, it was making the decision to step forward and join something bigger than yourself. Choosing to serve your community, stand beside your fellow firefighters, and answer the call when others need help most.

Over the last several months, you’ve put in the long nights, early mornings, endless drills, sore muscles, and countless hours of dedication to get here. You learned that the fire service is more than wearing gear and riding apparatus, it’s about commitment, trust, pride, and knowing the people standing next to you have your back.

Today, you earned more than a certification. You earned your place among the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, sacrifice, determination, and commitment each of you has shown to our department and our community.

Stand tall, wear that shield with pride, trust your training, and remember that no firehouse is built by one personβ€”it’s built by the crew standing beside you.

Congratulations. Be proud. You earned this.

Welcome to the next chapter. πŸš’πŸ”₯

May is Mental Health Awareness Month β€” and in the emergency services, this message carries real weight.

Every call, every shift, every decision adds up. The job demands composure under pressure, strength in the face of adversity, and the ability to move forward no matter what you’ve just seen. But behind the professionalism, the stress is real β€” and it doesn’t shut off when the tones go silent.

Mental health is not just something we address after the critical incident or the difficult day, It’s something we must actively maintain every single day.

Just like our apparatus and equipment, if we don’t check in, maintain, and address small issues early, they become bigger problems down the line.

In the words of Chief Foster:

β€œIf you take one thing from this message, let it be this β€” taking care of yourself is not separate from the job, it is part of the job.”

This is a call to action for our entire emergency service community:

Please Check in on your people.
Have the conversations.
Use the resources available to you.
Speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
And when someone reaches out, answer them.

Strength in this job isn’t about carrying it all alone. It’s about knowing when to step in for others, and when to let others step in for you.

And this isn’t just for responders β€” it’s for everyone. Mental health matters in every home, every workplace, and every community.

Take it seriously. Take care of each other. And don’t wait until it’s too late.

International Firefighters’ Day – May 4, 2026

Today, we recognize the men and women who answer the call, no matter the hour, no matter the conditions, no matter the risk.

From training grounds to real emergencies, from quiet nights to chaotic scenes, this job demands commitment, sacrifice, and trust in the person beside you.

For 100 years, the members of the Plattekill Fire Department have stood ready to serve our community. That legacy continues today with the same pride, grit, and brotherhood that built it.

To those who have served before us, those standing beside us, and those who will carry it forward, we honor you.

Not just a job. Not just a call. A commitment to others.
