Thank you for sharing a wild summer with us at the Crooked Tree District Library this year!

The community of Walloon Lake hosted its first Wings of Walloon, a fun and educational celebration of butterflies with butterfly releases, freshly emerging monarchs, and even cookie painting! We enjoyed the opportunity to participate and help our friends in the community make beautiful butterfly art and learn more about symmetry! Thanks to Lauri Juday - what a brilliant start to a wonderful new tradition! And thank you to Skylar with Michigan Butterfly Habitats for sharing all your butterfly knowledge with us!

At our Boyne Falls branch, we had another fascinating visit with Cheri and her reptile friends from Raven Hill Discovery Center! Did you know that a leopard gecko has a see-through head? We didn't either! But we got to learn more about a gecko's interesting ear canal and see it for ourselves! Learning can be fun at any age!

It was a great summer!

We wish all Boyne Falls students a great first week of school this week! We hope you've enjoyed your summer and that you have a happy new school year ahead!

End of Summer Celebration! Today, August 22nd, in Walloon Lake and Boyne Falls from 11:00am - 2:00pm!

We've had a wonderful summer of reading in our Boyne Falls and Walloon Lake communities! Bring your reading sheets in to either branch for a prize and a treat during our End of Summer Celebration on Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00pm! 🎉

Our Dino Walk was so much fun, that we're leaving it up through Saturday! Pick up a notebook to decorate and fill it with drawings of each of the step-by-step dinosaurs you'll find throughout the library! Then, color them in for your own dinosaur picture book! You can write your own story to fill the pages!

And if you find a dinosaur hidden in the library with a little tag that says "Adopt me," you can name it and take it home! Ask a librarian for an adoption certificate that you can fill out at the library or at home!

We are happy to place a new book on hold for you if a copy you were hoping for flies off the shelf before you arrive. Our patrons come first in the hold queue for our copies, so please let us know, and it's possible you'll be reading it within a week or two!

We've been having a colorful summer with the Walloon Lake Art Club at the Crooked Tree District Library!

Last month, members of the group joined us for an indoor watercolor painting session, and this weekend, members past and present gathered together for a beautiful reunion full of stories, smiles, and gorgeous artwork!

Our Boyne Falls branch mural has been unveiled! Have you seen it yet?

It represents a team effort of planning, art design, stenciling, and painting, a beautiful amalgamation that celebrates local culture and community with an homage to the 250th anniversary of the United States! Most importantly, it is our reminder to the community that the library is YOURS! ...a third space, a place to make new memories or reflect on old ones, a place where lifelong learning can be fun!

Our mural is currently in its temporary location, but now that the carnival rides have left town, it will soon be relocated to its new home!

Stop by and take a picture this week, and you can share it in the comments!

Fold a paper crane for the Great Lakes Center for the Arts community art installation, Heartflight!

Whether you love origami or just want to try, join us at either branch any time this week to participate! We'll provide the paper, and the first 20 participants will receive a free copy of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr!

The finished cranes will be delivered to the Great Lakes Center for the Arts for display!
