We’re bringing it back! Join the Wallops Visitor Center for an encore of our free public program all about NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Thursday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. to noon, with a special presentation in our auditorium at 10:30 a.m.

As we approach the launch of Roman, take a look at the science and story behind this next major observatory set to reshape our understanding of the universe. Learn about its powerful wide‑field infrared vision, its mission to investigate dark energy, and how it will help discover more than 100,000 exoplanets outside our solar system. Explore interactive displays that explain how the telescope will map galaxies, uncover other mysteries, and continue the legacy of Dr. Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s “Mother of Hubble.”

Designed for learners of all ages, this program blends hands‑on discovery with inspiring visuals, offering a close look at the technology and ambition driving one of NASA’s most exciting missions set to launch August 30 from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Wallops Visitor Center is free and open to the public Thursday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

🌠 TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! 🌠

Our After-Hours Perseid Meteor Shower event is happening tonight from 8–10 p.m. at the NASA Wallops Visitor Center!

We’ll be watching conditions for any opportunities to view the night sky. ☁️✨

Even if clouds prevent us from seeing meteors or other celestial objects, all of our indoor activities will go on as planned, including:

🔭 Astronomy 101
🌟 Constellation Bingo
🏝️ Junior Ranger Night Explorers activity with Assateague Island National Seashore Park Rangers
🪐 Hands-on space activities
👩‍🚀 Opportunity to learn more about astronomy, telescopes, and meteor showers with our NASA Solar System Ambassadors (inside our gallery if outdoor viewing isn’t possible).

This event is FREE and family friendly!

After-Hours Tips:
🕗 Arrive early enough to enjoy the full experience! The event will end promptly at 10 p.m.
🦟 Bug protection is recommended as mosquitoes and other insects may be present.
🏮Flashlights are recommended as the viewing area will be dark - please use a red filter or red light to help preserve night vision and minimize light interference for other skywatchers.
🚗 No parking is permitted along Rt. 175.

✨ Explore the cosmic wonders of the night sky!

Join us after hours at the Wallops Visitor Center Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 8–10 p.m. for an evening of stargazing at our Perseid Meteor Shower event!

This unique experience will be guided by NASA Solar System Ambassadors, local amateur astronomers, and Wallops Visitor Center staff, providing both experienced astronomy enthusiasts and first-time skywatchers an opportunity to observe the Perseid meteor shower, one of the year’s most anticipated celestial events!

✨ Enjoy Astronomy 101 and Constellation Bingo in our auditorium

This event is FREE and family friendly! Viewing is dependent upon clear skies. If cloudy or inclement weather prevents telescope viewing, indoor activities and programming will continue as planned.

NASA Senior Earth Science Specialist Brian Campbell will join us for a special presentation at 10:30 a.m., exploring NASA’s past, present, and future Earth Science missions and the cutting-edge technology behind them. Take a look behind the scenes of a sounding rocket mission. Meet the NASA Wallops Sounding Rockets Team, learn all about these suborbital rockets, and discover how they design, build, test, and safely fly these missions while supporting scientific research. Plus, build and launch your own straw rocket in our STEM lab!

Come cool off from the summer heat with us and learn about scientific balloons!

Inside at the NASA Wallops Visitor Center, we’ll be hosting a pop-up presentation today, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. on NASA's Scientific Balloon Program. Learn how these suborbital platforms carrying scientific instruments to the edge of space to study Earth, the solar system, and our universe.

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, we gather to honor the history of NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility. Established in 1945— just as the nation was emerging from WWII and looking toward the stars, Wallops Island stands as one of the oldest rocket launch sites in the world.

This special presentation traces the journey of a quiet Virginia barrier island as it transformed into a bustling hub of global aviation and aerospace achievement. From the early days of testing experimental NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) models to supporting the legendary Project Mercury and evolving into a modern launch range, Wallops has spent over eight decades contributing to American history.
