Weekly Update 10/11/26

We hope that everyone had a great weekend.

- Mon, Oct 12 is the last day of the 1st Quarter. We do have school on this day, even though the traditional schools do not. This will also be a college grade check day.

- Mon, Oct 12 is the final day to order from the Falcon Fall Online Store. Purchase new Falcon short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies with the logo voted upon by students. Orders will be shipped to school 2-3 weeks after the store closes on Oct 12. We need a 25 piece minimum sold for the order to make. As of Wed, Oct 7, there were only 5 items ordered, so if you plan to order and have not done so yet, please order tonight, but definitely by Monday, so we will have enough to make an order. - Tues-Fri, Oct 13-16 is our Fall Break so there will be no school.

A Little Look Ahead:

- Mon, Oct 19 & Tues, Oct 20 we will have high school classes only. College courses will not meet on these two days.

- Mon, Oct 19 all 10th grade students will take the Pre-ACT in the morning. 10th graders need to be at school by 8:15 and remember to bring a calculator. Check in with your 1st period high school class and then meet on the first floor of the college building where you'll take the Pre-ACT.

- Mon, Oct 19 is our next School Improvement Team Meeting after school.

- Fri, Oct 23 Report Cards

- Fri, Oct 23 is the 9th grade college visits to High Point University and Guilford College. Permission Forms are due to the high school office by Oct 19, but we suggest that students go ahead and turn those in tomorrow, Oct 12.

- Sun, Nov 8 the PTO is planning their 2nd Annual Holiday Painting for a Cause at The Arts Place in Danbury 2-4pm. Stay tuned for details that will be coming soon, but mark your calendar now for this family fun guided painting event where folks will be able to paint their own holiday canvas.

- Sat, Dec 5 is the Amnesty Club’s Annual Benefit Concert that will be held at the Palmetto Theatre in Walnut Cove, 7-11pm. Come out to listen to multiple local music acts. Donations will be accepted for Amnesty International and Doctors without Borders.

Today, 10th grade students spent the day checking out the Main Campus of Forsyth Tech.

Did you know?

As an Early College student being dual enrolled at Forsyth Tech, you are eligible to take programs offered at other Forsyth Tech campuses as well.

The Main Campus offers several certificate, diploma, and Associate Degree programs. Today, we checked out the Nursing, Sonography, and Respiratory Programs, in addition to Graphic Design, Welding, Mecatronics, Machining, Engineering, and Information Technology and Cybersecurity.

Located at 2100 Silas Creek Parkway, it is only 27 miles from our campus.

Earlier this week, we held our first Rock, Paper, Scissors Nest Competition during lunch. A couple weeks ago, each of our Nest Groups held their own Nest Competition and their top 2 finalists represented their Nest in the school-wide bracket.

Announcements 10/8/26

- Oct 6-23 the PTO is having their Annual Fall Fundraiser by selling delicious frozen items from Mrs. Pumpkin’s. Students received order forms and details this past Tuesday in their Nest Meeting. If students missed getting an order form, please check in the high school office. By participating, students can earn points for their Nest. PTO will use any profit to help support our school in different ways, such as help cover field trip costs, snacks for school events, and other items. You can find details on our website under “News.” Turn in order forms with money to the high school office with your name and Nest listed by Fri, Oct 23.

- Fri, Oct 9 is the 10th grade Field Trip to Forsyth Tech Main Campus. Thanks to the PTO for covering the transportation costs, especially since fuel prices have gone up so much. We will leave campus shortly after our 8:15 start and should be back on campus by 2:45, so students can ride buses to and from school as usual.

Bus 77, Wed Morning, 10/7, No Driver

We apologize for the early message and late notice, but unfortunately, we do not have a driver for Bus 77 this morning. Bus 77 Riders, please email Mr. Durham this morning by 7:00am, if possible, to acknowledge that you have received this message and to let him know as to whether or not you can find a way to school this morning. He will follow up with those who need a ride to inform them how and when a ride will arrive.

We hope to find a driver for the afternoon and will follow up with riders if that changes, so this hopefully will just be for the morning at the moment.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but the regular driver woke up sick and we just do not have many substitute drivers.

Weekly Update 10/4/26

We hope that everyone had a great weekend.

- Mon, Oct 5 we welcome everyone back to campus after finally getting the water repaired. Remember to finish any uncompleted assignments for Remote Learning Days by the end of this week or those days will be changed to absences in your high school classes. Also, remember that any project or assignment deadlines that were established prior to the Remote Learning Days may not changed.

- Tues, Oct 6 we will follow the Nest Schedule with Nest Meetings 9:45-9:55.

- Tues, Oct 6 the PTO is meeting at 6pm in the B Bldg Multipurpose Room. Please join us to provide input.

Remote Learning Day Details for 10/2/26

Due to a continued water outage on the Stokes Center Campus, SECHS will have a Remote Learning Day again on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Students can find assignments for their high school classes posted in the Canvas Classroom for each high school course. Some teachers may also email assignments to students or send messages through ClassDojo. Students have 5 days after returning to school to submit assignments for attendance purposes and/or potential evaluation purposes; however, previously established assignment deadlines may remain the same. If students do not complete Remote Day assignments within the 5 days, they will be marked absent for the day and the absence will count towards exam exemptions.

Mrs. Lemons' English 1 students need to be prepared to take their Short Story Performance Assessment and turn in the Study Guide on Monday, Oct 5 at the beginning of each class. They should use tomorrow (Friday) to study for the assessment. Please remember- late work passes cannot be used for study guides, there are no test corrections on this assessment, and it will count as a significant portion of students' grades.

Teachers will be available throughout the school day 8:30-3:00 to provide support and respond to student questions via email if you have them. Teachers will also provide students with a Google Meet Link in order for students to meet with their teachers virtually during scheduled Office Hours to ask questions and get support if they need it.

The scheduled Office Hour Times by teacher are as follows:

Smith, Lemons, and Lewis: 9:00-10:00 & 12:00-1:00

Minges, Price, and Poston: 10:00-11:00 & 1:00-2:00

Cook and Vaden: 11:00-12:00 & 1:30-2:30

The high school office will have limited staffing, but Mr. Durham, Ms. Spargo, and Ms. Wilson will be checking email throughout the day.

10th graders, make sure to get your Forsyth Tech Main Campus Field Trip Permission Form signed and turn that in to the high school office on Monday morning, Oct 5. If you lost your copy and want to attend the trip on Friday the 9th, email Mr. Durham to request an electronic copy.

The fall picture makeup/retake day has been rescheduled for Nov 13.

Forsyth Tech Stokes Center will operate Remotely tomorrow; however there are typically no Friday classes, but make sure to check your Forsyth Tech email and/or Learning Management System for details and assignments. College courses online and at other campuses will continue as scheduled, if you have those.

Make sure you complete your Remote Day college assignments because not doing so may get you behind in class and instructors may not accept late assignments.
