Tice Creek School Incident
Yesterday, at approximately 4:00p, an older gentleman was seen approaching a child at the Tice Creek basketball court area. The child was playing basketball by himself and the man started making small talk with him (he asked if he could play basketball with the child and kept giving him tips on the game).

Some of the neighborhood children were playing nearby, and reported that the man had parked his large RV in the Tice Creek parking lot. They reported feeling uncomfortable with the man's behavior. At some point during the time when he was playing basketball with the child, the man ran very quickly to his RV and sped away down Newell Avenue. The sheriff's office was contacted and a report was made.

The sheriff who was on duty yesterday agrees that this is not appropriate behavior. The department is asking that anyone, who sees this vehicle at or near TIce (or any other school for that matter), to contact the sheriff line immediately (925-646-2441). Because we are in the unincorporated part of WC, you will need to contact the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department at the number above.

Description of vehicle involved – Color: Cream Colored w/ Grey and Blue Stripes (there is an orange gas can on the back of the RV), Type: RV, License Plate: 3GVE279, Other details: According to the sheriff, the man lives in this vehicle and is seen in areas throughout WC and Alamo.

Hello fellow neighbors! Here are a few pictures from our Naturalist and Scavenger Hunt event. We had a wonderful time interacting with the animals and working with new friends to find the items on the scavenger list. A big thanks to Pinkberry, which provided dozens of frozen yogurts free of charge. Photo credits go to Gabriel Newman

PCA SPRING FLING:
NATURALIST Plus
SCAVENGER HUNT
Sunday, May 4, 1:00 pm
Parkmead Elementary

Have your kids (or you) ever wanted to pet a snake or hold a Tarantula? Now is your chance! Naturalist Michael Marichano will bring his "backyard critters" for a show and tell at Parkmead Elementary (at the rear entrance near the picnic tables) on Sunday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. Come and meet a snake up close and personal. See the difference between our only venomous snake—the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake—and all the other snakes that live in the area. Also come out and shake hands with the fascinating and harmless gentle giant of the spider world: the tarantula! Michael will tell you about the lives of these wonderful and beneficial creatures.

Plus, back by popular demand, the neighborhood scavenger hunt will follow at 2:00 p.m. Perfect for adults and kids alike! Come scour the neighborhood for obscure items. We have a new list of unusual items for you to find. There will be prizes for the winning team, plus homemade treats for all.

Heading over to set up for the pool party. Hope to see everyone there. Perfect day for the pool!

In lieu of our annual Spring Ice Cream Social, join us on Sunday, May 5th at 1:00 p.m. for a scavenger hunt. Have fun socializing with your neighbors and get some exercise too! We will gather at 1:00 p.m. in the "Kinder Circle" on Azalea at Parkmead Elementary School. Kids of all ages (and adults too!) are welcome to join the scavenger hunt and scour the neighborhood for as many of the eclectic items on our list as they can find. Prizes (including free pizza from Extreme Pizza!) will be awarded to the team that finds the most items. After the scavenger hunt, there will be homemade cupcakes, cookies and lemonade for all. And for those of you who are still up for more fun, there will be an informal field day at the school starting at 3:00 p.m. including frisbee, soccer and maybe even some softball.

RSVP not required but certainly appreciated. To RSVP, please email [email protected] if you think you'll be joining us. Please feel free to join us on Sunday even if you haven't RSVP'd. The more the merrier!

ATTENTION PARKMEAD RESIDENTS: There will be a neighborhood meeting on traffic issues Wednesday, April 10 from 7-9 pm at Parkmead Elementary School's Multi-Purpose Room.

Contra Costa County, specifically our new Supervisor, Candace Andersen, has engaged us to hold a community meeting regarding traffic safety issues in the Parkmead area. Representatives from the County and City traffic engineering departments will be present as well as representatives from the California Highway Patrol (responsible for County traffic issues) and the Walnut Creek Police.

Some of the issues raised by neighbors include:
-Cars speeding and not stopping at stop signs
-Concern for Parkmead children walking to and from the school on the Newell pathway as well as along Lilac
-Bicyclists not stopping at stop signs
-Residents being blocked into their driveways due to traffic congestion
-Cut through traffic from downtown (Kaiser, Rossmoor)

More details and a reminder will be posted here as the meeting gets closer. The Parkmead Community Association will also send email to those on its list and keep our website (www.parkmead.org), Nextdoor page, and Facebook current.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about county and city programs and to ask questions, make suggestions, and express opinions.

Mark your calendars and please plan to attend.
