Today's the final day to VOTE YES on Measure A! ✅Please vote yes if you haven't already.

Measure A renews Contra Costa County's Urban Limit Line, which has been one of the most important conservation tools in the East Bay for more than 30 years.

The Urban Limit Line has been called "one of Contra Costa’s great planning successes" by the East Bay Times.

Why is that? It's because our Urban Limit Line does so much for Contra Costa County, including
• protecting our beautiful open space
• defending our homes from wildfire
• limiting traffic
• funding crucial county operations
• supporting Contra Costa County agriculture
• and encouraging housing where it makes the most sense

Today, we need your help to pass Measure A so that we can continue reaping the conservation benefits that come from having an Urban Limit Line.

Please tell your family and friends to VOTE YES on Measure A!

There's a few spots left in our plein air painting hike on Saturday, June 27, at 10 AM! Join us for a beautiful day of art and nature at Curry Canyon Ranch, and come away with your very own painting.

Keep your eyes out; you might see turkey vultures and red-tailed hawks looking for a snack, plus ground squirrels, lizards, and lots of other wildlife who are active in the canyon.

We'll post the registration link in the comments.

We are delighted to honor Dawn Lezak as our Volunteer of the Month! Thank you for everything, Dawn: it's volunteers like you that help Save Mount Diablo succeed!

Dawn Lezak was one of the first teachers to participate in our Diablo Conservation Experience (formerly known as Conservation Collaboration Agreement) program, about a decade ago.

Since then, she's been actively supporting our educational programs.

Dawn is a part of our Education Committee, which helped guide the creation of Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve and the expansion of our educational programming.

She also volunteers as a Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve docent, regularly helps build habitat in the field as part of our Diablo Restoration Team, supports our Four Days Diablo event, and helps set up our annual Moonlight on the Mountain gala each year.

Outside of Save Mount Diablo, Dawn has many hobbies, including hiking! She and her husband regularly hike Shell Ridge and Pine Canyon and plan to expand their hikes further south into the Diablo Range this year.

We recently enjoyed a productive field day at Curry Canyon Ranch with our friends from the Patagonia SF store! Thank you to this amazing group for working hard with us to give Curry Canyon Ranch some love. 💚

The enthusiastic group contributed to our ongoing thinning and burn pile construction work along Knobcone Point Road. They chipped piles of brush created by the California Conservation Corps during their second 8-day work week “spike” before embarking on a scenic and rainy hike back down to the valley.

See our latest stewardship update to learn about this project and get a closer look at more of our exciting springtime adventures. We'll post the link in our comments section below.

Contra Costa County: By June 2, please vote YES ✅ on Measure A to protect the land we love, for wildlife and for people.

Measure A will help prevent sprawl from destroying Contra Costa County's precious wild lands by focusing development closer to freeways, transit, and existing businesses.

It renews our Urban Limit Line, which has been one of the county's most important conservation tools since it was first approved more than 30 years ago.

A Yes on A vote is a vote for conservation.

Measure A
• protects our beautiful open space
• defends our homes from wildfire
• limits traffic
• funds crucial county operations
• supports Contra Costa County agriculture
• and encourages housing where it makes the most sense

Since 1971, your support has protected open space and critical wildlife habitat throughout our region. Please give now to protect Mount Diablo's special landscapes, for animals, plants, and people.

Your impact is visible not only in the rare habitats we work together to protect, but in the lasting connections and love of nature these landscapes inspire.

Let's ensure that future generations have the opportunity to get outside and spot a golden eagle soaring overhead, or a kestrel on the hunt for its next meal.

You can help Mount Diablo's flowers continue to bloom year after year, so that a small child can marvel at their petals for the first, second, and hundredth time.

Please make a gift to our Spring Appeal now! We'll post the link in the comments below.

Tonight, step outside and look to Mount Diablo's summit: We'll be lighting the Beacon atop Mount Diablo in honor of Memorial Day.

The Beacon will be lit at sunset, and it will shine throughout the night until it is rested on Tuesday shortly after sunrise.

Save Mount Diablo maintains and operates the Beacon atop Mount Diablo's summit. We light the Beacon on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day to honor our veterans and those who have lost their lives in service to our country.

Tonight, local Pearl Harbor veteran Chuck Kohler will be honored in the National Memorial Day Concert. Each December 7th, Chuck Kohler leads a ceremony to light the Beacon atop Mount Diablo's summit, keeping alive the memory of those who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

At 102, Chuck is one of the last Pearl Harbor Survivors and has made it his mission to share the story of that fateful day.

Tune in on PBS tonight at 5:00 Pacific time to watch the National Memorial Day Concert.
