BART will extend the length of evening trains on multiple lines starting Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30, for the Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco.

BART will extend the length of evening trains on multiple lines starting Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30, for the Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco.

The event will feature a nightly drone show that is expected to start around 9:35pm on Friday and 9:20pm on the weekend that will be flown near the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero along the San Francisco waterfront. The longer evening trains will ensure BART has plenty of room for additional riders before and after the shows.

The Pokemon spirit will be evident on BART throughout the World Championships. Dozens of trains will be outfitted with posters and ceiling decals celebrating Pokemon. Powell Street Station, which is the closest BART station to Moscone Center, will be dominated by Pokemon ads. The Pokemon ad buy is part of BART’s ongoing effort to explore new and creative revenue opportunities as the agency faces a structural deficit starting in Fiscal Year 2027.

The weekend is expected to be a busy one for BART ridership in San Francisco as in addition to the Pokemon Championships, the Giants have home games against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, August 28, and a doubleheader on Saturday, August 29.

Riders coming from San Jose and southern Alameda County who plan to travel north are encouraged to start their trip at Union City the weekend of August 28-29 to avoid delays from rail replacement work. The work requires us to replace our regular train service with free buses between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont stations all day Saturday and Sunday. You can learn more about the project and its service impacts here: https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2026/news20260623
