Connected trails make it easier to walk, bike, reach transit, access open space, and get around safely.

CCTA wants your feedback on how to better connect two of Contra Costa’s most important regional trails: the Iron Horse Trail and the Contra Costa Canal Trail.

Through the Iron Horse and Contra Costa Canal Trails Connection Feasibility Study, CCTA is exploring preliminary route concepts for a possible future trail connection in the Pacheco area.

We want your input on what matters most in a future connection, including:

- safer walking and biking
- separation from car and truck traffic
- ADA accessibility
- access to open space and recreation
- connections to local bus service and the Pacheco Transit Hub
- better access to shopping, entertainment, and other local destinations

The route concepts shown in the map graphic are preliminary and are intended to gather public input. They are not formal proposals at this stage.

Traffic signals in Contra Costa County are getting smarter!

On Wednesday, CCTA officially broke ground on the Countywide Smart Signals Project in Danville, marking an important step toward a smarter, safer, and more connected transportation network across Contra Costa County.

Thank you to Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, Supervisor Candace J. Kay Andersen, Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich, Contra Costa County, and the Town of Danville, CA for joining us to celebrate this milestone and for their continued partnership.

This project will modernize approximately 365 traffic signals across the county, helping improve coordination, support safer travel, and give local agencies better real-time tools to manage traffic.

A special thank you to CCTA Senior Engineer Andy Dillard, whose work and leadership helped move this project from concept to construction. His experience, including his earlier work with the Town of Danville, has been instrumental in shaping a project that started with local needs and is now growing into a countywide system upgrade.

We’re excited to see this work move forward and grateful to all of our city, county, regional, state, federal, and transit partners helping bring smarter infrastructure to Contra Costa County.

Great news for Contra Costa families: Youth Ride Free is back this summer!

No application. No ID. No special pass. Just hop on and go!

This countywide program was made possible in part because of contributions from Contra Costa County Supervisors Diane Burgis and Shanelle Scales-Preston to ensure every student or child in the county has access to free transit this summer.

Yes, that means everyone 18 and under can ride County Connection (Central Contra Costa Transit Authority) Tri Delta Transit, and WestCAT buses for free from June 1 through July 31.

Why are we doing this? Because Youth Ride Free gives students more independence and gives parents one less ride to coordinate.

Whether it is getting to a summer job, the library, parks, activities, shopping, or time with friends, this program helps young people stay connected across Contra Costa County.

The program is also supported by CCTA through Measure J, as well as state funding sources (LCTOP) for WestCat.

The Town of Moraga is restarting community engagement on the Livable Moraga Road project and is inviting residents and interested stakeholders to join a walking tour on Saturday, May 16.

The Livable Moraga Road project has been in development for several years, and the Town Council has previously identified a preferred concept for the Moraga Road corridor, including a proposed change to the segment between Donald Drive and Corliss Drive.

The walking tour will give community members an opportunity to see the proposed concept in the field, learn more about the traffic, safety, and corridor considerations behind it, and share feedback directly with Town staff.

This is the first step in a broader outreach effort that will continue over the coming months before the project returns to Town Council later this year.

Event details are included in the flyer. Learn more about the project at www.moraga.ca.us/lmr

What makes a traffic signal “smart,” and why does it matter for everyday travel in Contra Costa County?

In the latest episode of On the Go with CCTA, Tim Haile, Executive Director of CCTA, talks with Andrew Dillard, Senior Engineer at CCTA, and Matt Redmond, Traffic Engineer for the City of Walnut Creek, about CCTA's brand new Countywide Smart Signals project, and how these upgrades can help intersections work better together.

The conversation covers how smarter signals can support safer travel, smoother trips, and better tools for managing traffic across the county.
