The Huerfano county Sheriff dept. Is looking for a 16 year old runaway from Stacy Dr. in Walsenburg.
Miguel Alvarez left his home around 03:00am on 10/01//023 he’s 5’10” 160-170lb brown/brown last seen wearing black jeans, black shirt believed to still be in our area.
Miguel sent a message around 6-6:30 this morning stating he was with his girlfriend. We are following up on all leads.

On April 5th, 2023 around 2:00 P.M. the Huerfano county dispatch center received a call from a male party stating that he arrived home and found his wife had been shot.

Responding Sheriff's dept. did locate a 64 year old female who was deceased and did have injuries consistent with a homicide.

The suspect was identified as a neighbor, around 2:45 P.M. the suspect David freilino 41 years old was taken into custody.

The incident took place about 3 miles East of Gardner.

On 06/20/2022 at approximately 0830 pm, deputies responded to the 600 block of west 7th street on a report of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival it was found that the male suspect had fled the scene. Deputies searched for the vehicle but we’re unable to immediately locate the vehicle. The male was suspected of committing acts of domestic violence against the victim, was intoxicated and had felony warrants for his arrest.

Corporal J. Jenkins located the vehicle near Main Street in Walsenburg. Cpl Jenkins attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the male refused to pull over and a pursuit was initiated with the male. The male after reaching speeds over 100 miles an hour, became disabled after crashing inside Lathrop State Park.

The male fled on foot into the heavily wooded areas in Lathrop. Thermal drones, parks personnel, and multiple deputies searched the area for hours to no avail.

While clearing from the area, Deputies were notified that the male returned to the residence and was armed with a handgun and intoxicated. The victim was unable to get away because she could not leave the kids in the house. The female was texting updates to a 3rd party to deputies.

Captain C. Lessar and Cpl C. Klipfel we’re able to locate the children through a window. Cpl Klipfel and Capt Lessar we’re able to get the window open and talk the children into exiting through the window and carried them away from the scene.

Once the kids were gone the female victim was able to leave and was taken to safety.

Numerous Deputies, Las Animas/Trinidad Tactical Medics, and Colorado State Parks Officers, arrived on scene and surrounded the house and began giving announcements.

The male suspect barricaded himself in the house and was seen walking around the house with a handgun. A search warrant and an arrest warrant were authored and approved for the residence and the male party.

Pueblo Police Department S.W.A.T. Was contacted for mutual aid and responded to the scene. Tactical Officers with the Pueblo Police Department introduced non-lethal gas into the residence in an attempt to force the male to surrender. After several hours of commands and numerous attempts to get the suspect to surrender peacefully, officers entered the residence and locate the male under the floorboards of the house in a crawl space.

The male was taken into custody without further incident.

The male was booked into the Huerfano County Jail for numerous Felony NO BOND warrants, including from this incident.

Thank you to the Pueblo Police Department for there help bringing this incident to a peaceful end.

On the evening of March 24th 2022, Huerfano County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a local bar establishment on the report of a disturbance in progress.

Upon arrival, Deputies contacted numerous patrons of the bar who all stated that the parties involved in the altercation left the area just before Deputies arrived. Deputies searched the area for any potential suspects or anyone that may have needed medical attention. While attempting to locate these parties, Corporal Jenkins noticed a vehicle driving in the area without using headlamps as well as committing numerous other traffic related violations. Corporal Jenkins contacted this vehicle at the Safeway parking lot. During the investigation, that the male passenger of the vehicle admitted to being one of the parties involved in the altercation at the bar. Deputies were able to contact the other party involved in the altercation and the altercation was determined to be verbal in nature; however the female driver of the vehicle was suspected of being under the influence of the time of contact. An investigation for DUI was conducted, And, with the help of Colorado State Patrol, The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. The female driver was later cited for numerous traffic violations including DUI and released to a sober, responsible party.

This investigation was the second investigation of the evening that included investigation for DUI, and the 11th Investigation resulting in DUI related charges for this year so far.

As the weather warms up, and people are starting to gather in public places again, the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office would like to express the public safety risk created by IMPAIRED/DUI drivers and would like to urge everyone to drive safe and drive sober.

On March 25, 2022 at 10:31PM, Sergeant Bill LaPorte conducted a traffic stop for illegal tint at the 200 block of Main Street in Walsenburg.

With the assistance of Corporal Jacob Jenkins, his K9 Deputy Hex, and Deputy Frank Martin, a search of the vehicle was conducted and the results were the discovery of Schedule I and II controlled substances in the amount to charge the driver with distribution. It was revealed the driver is on parole through Colorado Parole, and the driver faces additional charges related to possession of a weapon by a previous offender (handgun) as well as special offender.

Both driver and the female passenger were arrested and transported to the Huerfano County Jail.

The investigation is on going at this time.

On 03/24/22 at approximately 1939 hours Captain Daniels observed a suspicious interaction between two people at the Loaf n Jug in Walsenburg. After watching the parties involved for a short period of time, A vehicle driven by one of the parties involved left the convenience store and traveled northbound onto Main Street. Captain Daniels made contact with the vehicle when it had mechanical issues and was disabled in the 100 block of Main Street and was momentarily blocking traffic. The driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle and was exhibiting very strange behavior, and was showing visible signs of intoxication. After discovering numerous signs of drug intoxication and use, as well as a positive alert on the vehicle for narcotics from the help of Cpl. Jenkins and K-9 “Hex”, the driver was detained and searched. After searching the driver, deputies located a large bag and two smaller bags containing a substance that later tested positive as co***ne and together weighed just under 28 grams. The driver was also found to have a larger sum of US currency.

Colorado State Patrol assisted in the investigation of the driver Driving under the influence of drugs. The driver was booked into the Huerfano County Jail on numerous drug related charges as well as DUID and other traffic related offenses.

Great job by all involved and a special thanks to the Colorado State Patrol for their assistance.

On March 23 at approximately 2120 hours (920 pm) Sergeant Laporte and Deputy Martin were on patrol, when Sergeant Laporte noticed a Chevy truck with a trailer parked in the roadway of the intersection of County Road 504 and County Road 525. Deputy Martin and Sergeant Laporte made contact with the vehicle to check the welfare of the occupant of the vehicle. The male inside the vehicle told deputies that he was waiting for a friend to bring the registration for the vehicle. The vehicle had no visible registration and the trailer had a license plate from California, so deputies decided to look into the male parties story a bit further.

After finding the VIN (Vehicle identification number) on the truck, Huerfano Dispatch informed deputies that the truck was stolen out of Pueblo Colorado a couple weeks prior. The male party inside the truck was taken into custody at that time. A short time later, Huerfano Dispatch confirmed that the trailer was also stolen, but was stolen out of Colorado Springs Colorado 6 days after the vehicle, in septate incidents. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the Huerfano County Jail without incident. Huerfano Deputies took possession of the truck and trailer for safe keeping until they can be returned to their rightful owners.
