As summer time approaches and the weather warms up. The Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that there are several county roads that are approved for Off-Highway Vehicle(OHV) use.

Per CRS 33-14.5-101(3), OHV means any self-propelled vehicle that is designed to travel on wheels or tracks in contact with the ground, designed primarily for use off of the public highways, and generally and commonly used to transport persons for recreational purposes.

Common OHVs include: All-Terrain Vehicles(ATVs), Dirt Bikes, various types of side-by-sides including "dune buggies".

If you wish to drive an OHV on a designated county road, you must follow a few simple rules. The OHV must be registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife with the registration visible(for questions regarding registration please talk to a Parks or Wildlife Ranger), the driver being 16 years or older and licensed to drive, safety gear to be worn, no careless driving and yielding to all regular vehicle traffic. You must haul the OHV to the county roads, so no riding them there. Please also be mindful to keep all OHVs on the county road and off private property, failure to do so could result in criminal charges. There are also no time restrictions announced at this time.

(Approved County Roads are updated)
The County Roads(CR) are
-From Highway 69, CR 630 connecting to CR 634 back to Highway 69
-CR 580 which goes west from the intersection of CR 550/570/580
-CR 581 which intersects with CR 580 and CR 583
-CR 583 which heads to Mosca Pass
-CR 557 which does not connect to another OHV road.
-CR 559 from Highway 69
(please see attached photos for reference).
