It is a sad day in Colleton County. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Deputy Charles Strickland and the Sheriff’s Office.

It is with profound sadness that the Colleton County Sheriff's Office announces the End of Watch for our brother and colleague, Deputy Charles Strickland, who passed away today, April 22, 2026.

Deputy Strickland was an unwavering example of integrity and dedication, serving our community with courage and a heart for service for many years. His legacy will live on in the lives he protected and the deputies he mentored.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Strickland family, his friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him. We stand with you during this time of great loss.

Rest in peace, Deputy Strickland. Your duty is done. Your legacy remains. We'll take the watch from here.

⚠️ Government Office Closure Notice ⚠️

Colleton County Government Offices, to include Solid Waste Convenience Sites and the Landfill, will be closed Friday, April 3 in observance of Good Friday. The landfill along with the convenience sites, that are normally open on Saturday, will resume operations on Saturday.

Well, I don't know about you. But, we think think porch sitting, sneezing, and lemonade is way better than burning down the neighborhood!

So, fellow Colletonians, what are your plans for this weekend????

Well..... if it involves 🔥 your better think twice, or three times, or however many times it takes for you to not light it. You know, like the kind of stern no🙅 you would get as a child when you wanted to do something, but your parents thought differently! 🤣😂

🌤Fire Weather for this weekend is predicted to be pretty spicy 🌶, and not in a good way! Conditions for large, fast moving, and potentially devastating wildfires will be in Mother Nature's favor.

If you choose not to listen to us🙄, you better have that phone 📱 handy because you will need it. See fires are finicky, and just when you think you have it all under control, ya DON'T!

🆘🚨Early notification to Fire-Rescue is imperative. The number is really easy. Are you ready? It's 911!

Fun fact: You are responsible for wherever your fire goes. Burning your own house down is one thing. Burning down your neighbor's house or the neighborhood sounds mighty expensive!💸💵 . It will also get you a visit from none other than the fine The South Carolina Forestry Commission Law Enforcement Officer on duty👮. Let's just say, "My Bad" or "I'm Sorry" is not going to help you when a Red Flag Warning has been issued.

Ice cold lemonade in a rocking chair sounds pretty good to me! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful pollenated lowcountry weather! Don't forget the tissues 🤧!

Did you know that Colleton County Fire Rescue provides and installs smoke alarms for all county residents that live within the fire district? Thanks to funding from Colleton County Council and Administration our Fire-Rescue department is able to provide these life saving devices at no cost. Please take advantage of this program by call Fire-Rescue Headquarters at 843-539-1960.

Daylight saving time starts this Sunday, March 8th! Use this as a reminder to test your smoke alarms and replace batteries if needed.
