🌟🌟Monday Volunteer Spotlight 🌟🌟

This week we are featuring our Monday shop team! Meet Karen, Maryellen, Rich and Jackie, who are here each Monday operating the Shop @20 Felton Street, where our guests have access to free clothing.

Our Monday volunteers are awesome at supporting our guests in the Shop. They are reliable, consistent, and greet our guests by name with a smile. We couldn’t run this program without you!

It’s that time of year again!

We rely on funds from our annual Fall Fundraiser to fuel some of our most important programs:

🥗daily lunch for those in need

🚿showers and laundry services for folks sleeping outside

🏡 case management, which places 25-30 unhoused people per year into homes of their own

👕the Shop at 20 Felton Street, where guests access free clothing

🧼hygiene items for those in need

✨✨🐕 Vets & Pets 🐈‍⬛✨✨

Research on homelessness and companion animals is limited, but according to the Animal Welfare Institute, up to approximately 25% of people experiencing homelessness have a pet.

At CDCW, we know how important that bond is. We’ve seen guests skip meals so their pets can eat and sleep outside rather than leave them behind.

🐾 Through Vets & Pets, we’re able to provide free veterinary care, collect and distribute dog and cat food, and help keep pets healthy alongside the people who love them. A special thank you to Dr. Monica Mansfield, who regularly volunteers her time and expertise to care for our guests’ beloved companions.

❤️ Because caring for our community includes caring for every member of the family.

We have lots of pasta dishes to share today! 🍝🍝

Two gorgeous cold pasta salads to beat the heat and a delicious homemade lasagna, all made by our volunteers and enjoyed by our guests!

Did you know that approximately 20% of people who have experienced long-term homelessness lose their housing within the first year after moving in?

There are many reasons this happens. The transition from homelessness to housing can be overwhelming. People may need help learning to manage a household budget, paying rent on time, furnishing an apartment, setting up utilities, navigating mental health or recovery challenges, or simply adjusting to life indoors after years of homelessness.

That’s why the Community Day Center of Waltham is creating a new Stabilization Case Manager position.

This Case Manager will work one-on-one with guests after they move into housing, helping them build the skills, resources, and confidence needed to remain housed long-term.

Responsibilities include conducting home visits, helping clients furnish their apartments, setting up utilities and internet service, connecting people to rental assistance, providing financial literacy coaching, supporting employment goals, and addressing challenges before they become housing crises.

If you’re passionate about ending homelessness—not just by helping people get housed, but by helping them stay housed—we’d love to hear from you.

🎉💛 MISSION METROWEST 2026 – FINAL UPDATE! 💛🎉

Together, our amazing community has helped make Mission MetroWest our biggest and most successful campaign yet. Every mile walked, every dollar donated, every volunteer, sponsor, and supporter has helped make a real difference for people experiencing homelessness in our community.

We are thrilled to share that together we have raised an incredible $29,222!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Walker Foundation and their match funding, that means almost $60,000 will now go towards supporting our essential programs, including our Night Program, free clothing store, case management services, meals, and so much more.

And we're so close...

🎉 We have some exciting news! 🎉

The Community Day Center of Waltham is incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient of a Cummings Foundation grant, providing $25,000 per year for the next three years! 🥳

This funding comes at a crucial time as we work with more guests than ever before. It will help us expand our case management services, support more individuals experiencing homelessness, and continue helping people move toward stable housing and brighter futures.

Last year alone, we helped 30 formerly chronically homeless individuals secure permanent housing. 💪

A huge thank you to the Cummings Foundation for believing in our mission and investing in our community. Together, we can continue changing lives across Waltham and MetroWest. ❤️
