During an intimate ceremony earlier today, the Waltham Police Department recognized Officer John Farago’s retirement after his 26 years of dedicated service to the community.

Officer Farago is a familiar face to many members of the community, as spent the past 13 years serving as the School Resource Officer at Waltham High School, where he made a lasting impact on countless students, staff, and families.

We thank Officer Farago for his years of service and wish him all the best in retirement.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty. It is celebrated May 15 of each year. Please join us in thanking the officers from Waltham and around the country who made the ultimate sacrifice or were disabled in the line of duty. We thank them and their families for their service and sacrifice.

With the warmer weather here, more people are out walking, biking, running, and enjoying the outdoors. Please stay mindful and alert while driving and help keep everyone safe on our roads.

Massachusetts’ Vulnerable Road Users Law helps protect pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, road workers, first responders, and others who are at greater risk on our roads.

Drivers must:
• Slow down and use caution near vulnerable road users
• Leave at least 4 feet of space when passing bicycles and pedestrians when possible
• Do not block bike lanes
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
• Move over when approaching stopped emergency or highway vehicles with flashing lights

Safe driving saves lives. Please slow down, stay alert, and share the road.
