If you are worried that someone in your life is suicidal, call the same number and they will help you. This page is not monitored 24 hours a day, and should not be used as a tool for someone in crisis.

We often measure our lives against an imagined normal. But for families navigating mental health diagnoses, “normal” is not a fixed experience.

If your family is carrying more than others can see, you are not alone. There is strength in asking for help, in naming what’s hard, and in building routines that fit your home.

FFDA is facing a serious financial challenge, but our mission hasn’t changed. Every day, families turn to us for education, support, and guidance while navigating depression and bipolar disorder. During our “31 Days of Investing in FFDA” campaign, we’re asking our community to help protect these vital programs and resources. If you believe families shouldn’t face mental health challenges alone, now is the time to help. When we can speak openly about our experiences, shame and stigma lose power. It reminds us we are not alone, and that healing often begins with being heard. Our stories can be complicated, tender, and unfinished, but they still deserve room to exist without judgment.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that support at home can make a powerful difference. LGBTQ+ young people who feel accepted by at least one supportive adult report significantly lower rates of su***de attempts. For family caregivers, showing up with love, affirmation, and understanding matters more than you may realize. Thank you The Trevor Project for sharing this research!

If we want our communities to thrive, we need individuals to thrive. We are better when we are together. When we show up for each other, we lighten the load. Community helps us feel seen, supported, and less alone. Connection can ease stress, strengthen resilience, and protect our mental health.

Since it's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's talk about Psychiatric Advance Directives (PAD)! A PAD is a legal tool that helps people communicate their mental health treatment preferences and values during a crisis.

This is Kaely, who lives with bipolar disorder, and her mother, Maggie. Together, they used a Psychiatric Advance Directive to strengthen communication and help Maggie advocate for Kaely’s wishes and treatment preferences when support was needed most.
