New deer to the herd. This fawn was in the middle of Wichita. Like 21st and Tyler area.
The person who came across this deer was walking on the sidewalk in her neighborhood when this 8 month of doe approached her. It’s clear that this deer was raised within city limits by an individual and escaped. And is evident that this deer has never seen another deer before.
We will quarentine this doe for a week or two before we release her. Currently she is paired by one of our sponsor deer to learn how to be a deer prior to release.

Update on all of the rehab fawns! Everyone is surviving their first month in the wild! They come by every morning for some feed. They love the wheat I planted for the pigs we’re finishing out.

It’s that time of year! We opened the gate for the fawns. If they can jump that 36” panel they can be free to roam!

Counting down the days until release. Come October 15 I’m going to open the gate to the 3ft high fence area. This will be the soft release we typically do. If they can jump that fence they can be free to roam!

Been a while since I’ve posted any updates. Life’s been busy!
We’re almost done weaning. Right now we’re worming everyone so when released they’re parasite free.
This year we’re going to keep them a month longer so they have more size to run from predators so instead of a mid October release, we’ll do mid November.
Now if they decide to jump out before then. Then they’re ready! 😊

Update: everyone is still healthy and thriving! One fawn is starting to loose his spots!

We’re surviving the heat! Today, even though it was just a little cooler, it was still brutal!
