Very well said by our friends at Irondequoit and Penfield-Webster Ambulance.

Proposed changes to Medicaid ambulance reimbursement will directly impact EMS agencies across New York State. Ambulance services cannot turn patients away, and continued funding cuts only make it harder to provide the level of care our communities expect and deserve. We encourage everyone to stay informed.

Help NYS EMS and ambulance services retain vital funding that is threatened by a proposed cut to Medicad crossover payments in the Governor's FY2027 budget.

You don't need to climb a mountain or spend hours outside to get frostbite. 🥶

Frostbite is possible as soon as temps dip below freezing - and faster than you might think.

Watch for signs like:
❗ Red skin with numbness or tingling
❗ Skin turning pale, grayish, or waxy
❗ Skin feeling hard or “wooden”
❗ Blistering after you warm up

What to do if you think it’s frostbite:
✅ Get indoors and warm up slowly
✅ Remove wet clothing, swap into dry layers
✅ Warm the area with body heat or lukewarm water
✅ Do not rub or massage the skin
✅ Skip hot water, heating pads, and fires, burns are easy to miss when you’re numb

Cover all exposed skin when you go outside, even for a quick run to the store. Gloves, a hat, and something over your face go a long way.

⚠️ If symptoms don’t improve after warming, or you see blistering or have severe pain, seek medical care as soon as possible.

Borrowed this from Henrietta Fire station

Good morning,

Before anyone last minute panic-buys all the milk and bread—we’re not here with doom-and-gloom weather talk. What we’re expecting is a good, old-fashioned snowstorm. ❄️ Just winter doing winter things.

Here are a few quick winter safety reminders to help keep the day uneventful:

• Using alternate heating sources? Make sure they’re used properly, kept clear of combustibles, and never used indoors if they’re meant for outdoor use only. Never use your stove to heat your home or apartment.
• Shoveling snow is a workout—pace yourself, take breaks, and push when you can instead of lifting.
• Snow blower safety: never use hands to clear jams (even if you’re “just gonna be quick”). Turn it off and use a tool (even though the blower is off, everything inside is still under tension). Your fingers will thank you. 👍
• Keep vents and exhaust pipes clear of snow to prevent carbon monoxide issues.

If all goes according to plan, the goal is to end the day with hot chocolate, a good book, or football on the TV. ☕📖🏈

🚨 Winter Weather Advisory – Pet Safety Reminder 🚨

With dangerously cold temperatures and winter weather impacting our area, it is NOT safe for animals to be outside right now. Frostbite and hypothermia can set in within minutes, even for healthy pets.

🐾 Please remember:
•Bring pets indoors. No animal should be left outside in these conditions.
•Frostbite happens fast—ears, tails, noses, and paws are especially vulnerable.
•Watch ice melt products. Many are toxic to pets if licked or absorbed through paws.
•If your pet must go outside for a quick potty break, limit time outdoors and dry their paws immediately when they come back inside.

🚫 Now is NOT the time to abandon animals—anywhere.
This includes leaving animals outside, tied up, or dumped at our shelter doors.

🤝 If you are struggling or need to surrender an animal, please ask for help. We are here to work with you and find safe options.

❤️ Stay safe and stay warm.
We are closely monitoring weather conditions and will share updates regarding shelter and clinic hours as more information becomes available.

Thank you for looking out for your pets and for each other.
