For nearly 20 years, New York's Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers Tax Credit has remained unchanged.
I was proud to support S.6233-A/A.6790-A, legislation that increases this tax credit for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers. The bill increases the credit from $200 to $800 for individuals and from $400 to $1,600 for married couples filing jointly. It also allows eligible volunteers to receive both the tax credit and a local property tax exemption.
This is the second year we have passed this bill in the Senate and the first year it has passed both houses of the Legislature. Now, it awaits the Governor's signature.
Please join me in urging the Governor to sign this legislation into law. It is an important first step in supporting the dedicated firefighters and ambulance workers in our communities.
