Help us wish EMT/Firefighter Ben Martin and EMT Ben Lavariega good luck! Both Ben’s are beginning classes this month to continue their education. Ben 1 will be attending Mercy’s Advanced EMT program, Ben 2 will be attending Blackhawk Tech’s Firefighter program. Good luck to the Ben’s!

Walworth Fire & Rescue is looking to fill a full-time position opening soon. One of our members will be continuing their prehospital journey and going back to school in the fall, leaving us with a gap in coverage. Kathy’s busy preparing the first of two CPR courses this morning.

Did you know last year the American Heart Association added Pearl Jam’s ‘Even Flow’ to their growing list of songs with a good tempo for performing hands only CPR? Put on your flannel shirts, roll up your sleeves and push hard and fast to this classic tune! …Or if your like way younger than me and you think Pearl Jam is old news I guess you could go on the instagram and find another cool song with 100-120 beats per minute 😉

This afternoon WFR hosted a small class going over agriculture and farm safety for the students getting ready to work on farm land. Big thanks to Walworth DPW for bringing out a tractor very similar to the one they have to take their test in. We went over topics like confined spaces, chemicals farmers use, first-aid and stopping the bleed. After that we touched on fire extinguishers and students had the chance to actually practice the basic P.A.S.S. steps (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) method of deploying a fire extinguisher to put out small fires. We had fun, good luck and fingers crossed you all pass your test!
