Recently our staff has been receiving a lot of calls for help directly to the Fire Department and while we are always on duty 24/7, sometimes we step out to do fire inspections, follow up with local complaints, or even do training off site. We carry our pagers and radios any time we exit the building so we can always be ready. But we wanted to remind the community that sometimes if you call us directly, it’s actually delaying the response. For example, we once took a direct phone call from a person reporting they had hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk with their car and the caller was actually located two cities away from us, delaying the response and care that was needed. Please call 911 in the event of an emergency, whether it’s 2pm or 2am, let the powers that be up at dispatch handle the rest. By activating the 911 system we can ensure that our staff off site or on duty from home also gets the page to respond additionally if needed. Thank you and stay safe 🚒🚑
