An Update from Supervisor Susie C. Jacobs, MMC:

As many of you know, the Governor has extended the PAUSE to May 15th. Wayne County is reporting over 69 cases of Covid-19 and one death, so please use care. Your Town government is working and also planning on how to safely return to the Town Hall projected for May 18th, within the Governor’s guidelines for reopening to ensure everyone’s safety.

Walworth entered 2020 with a sound budget. As the year progressed, the Covid-19 storm washed up on our shores leaving damage in its wake. You may not realize that our Town budget consists of revenue from services provided, property owners, state aid, sales tax, and mortgage tax dollars. Several of these revenue streams have been and will continue to be reduced by the Covid-19 State of Emergency. I have asked all Town departments to provide details on areas in which we can cut spending to reflect the decreases in our revenue streams, and have implemented a policy of no spending taking place other than where absolutely necessary. We will weather this storm together, and I am leading our team to make sure the Town remains financially sound while providing needed services to our residents.

Town employees continue to work in new and creative ways while staying safe. If you need to reach us, please email or call. Always leave a message and we will call/email you back. You will find our contact information on the Town web site. We are here to serve you and will continue to do so however we can.

The Town parks are open, though all playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts, lodge and pavilions are closed. The trails are open and walking the park is okay with proper social distancing. The recreation program is starting to offer some virtual programming; please see our website for details. Our popular Farmer’s Market is planned to open June 23rd.

We continue to ask that you please not flush masks, gloves, or kitty litter as these all damage our sewer system. We thank you for your assistance with keeping our system clean.

The Meals on Wheels program is still running and many new volunteers have stepped up to help serve our seniors that depend upon this service. Thank you to everyone involved for all you do. A special thanks to Mac’s Pizza Shack for allowing the program to use their closed dining area as a volunteer pick up location.

If you haven’t already, please make sure you complete your 2020 Census information, as aid from the federal and state governments is based on these numbers.

April 11, 2023, will be the 200th Anniversary of the establishment of Wayne County New York. We are working to form a Town committee to help plan activities to celebrate and educate folks in our Town. If you are interested in getting involved with the committee, please contact me.

Please keep our first responders and medical providers in your prayers. We all value the services they provide to our community. We are blessed to have them!

We are all in the COVID-19 emergency together, and I am always available to help, to answer questions, or hear your concerns. Please feel free to call me at 315.986.1400x1.

Stay Safe!

Updates From Supervisor Susie Jacobs.......

Our town hall is closed due to the current State of Emergency. Town employees are working very hard remotely to keep our Town running. With this in mind, please plan on mailing your sewer bill, license renewals, and other documents to us. If you have a question, please email the department needed. You will find a list of contacts on the Town webpage Townofwalworthny.gov.

Our sewer department requests that you do not flush gloves, masks, or wipes as they cause problems with our treatment facility. Flushing these items may also cause damage to your plumbing and lead to costly repairs.

Town park pavilions, tennis court, basketball courts, and playground equipment are closed. You may walk the trails and use open spaces while practicing social distancing.

Please check the Town website for Covid-19 resource updates, these are posted as new information becomes available.

I am always available to help you, please call me at 585.230.2649 if you need me. Stay safe!

Important Town Board Meeting Update - Thursday, March 19th
Please be advised that due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Town of Walworth will be implementing measures to protect the health and safety of its residents, employees and officials.

This evening, the Town Board meeting will begin at 6:30, but the Board will convene directly into an attorney client privileged session for legal advice as it relates to the pandemic. The Board will then reconvene live for the public portion of the meeting.

The meeting this evening will be held in the Town Hall meeting room, but some public officials may participate via phone.

In order to combat the COVID19 pandemic, and in following state and federal guidance, only necessary public officials will be permitted to attend the meeting live in the Town Hall meeting room. Nobody else, including the public, will be permitted to attend the live meeting in the Town Hall meeting room.

However, the meeting will be streamed live through the Town of Walworth page for viewing by the public. Please again note that the attorney/client privilege portion of the meeting is confidential and will not be part of the live stream, but as soon as such portion is concluded, the meeting will be streamed live via the Town’s page.

Live audio can of the meeting may be heard in the Town Hall Lobby, but the Town is encouraging residents to stay home and view through the Facebook live page so as to provide for social distancing.

Update from Town Supervisor Susie Jacobs…

Due to the New York State of Emergency and directives from the Governor and CDC guidelines, we have implemented the following changes.

The Town Hall is open by appointment only until further notice. The health and well-being of our community and staff are critical. This plan will allow us to meet the immediate needs of our residents while practicing social distancing. The current challenges to keeping everyone safe by avoiding person to person meetings necessitate this change and we understand that this is a different way for you to conduct business. Please call or email the department you need to conduct your business and be aware that we are working with a reduced staff. Most appointments are from 9:00 am to Noon. Check the Town website http://www.townofwalworthny.gov for contact information. We also have a secure drop-box in the upper-level lobby for your use from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

All Parks and Recreation programs are canceled until further notice.

We are also working on a live stream for public meetings to practice good social distancing. Please stay tuned for updates.

Walworth is a community of caring neighbors, take a moment and please phone to check on your neighbors and we will get through this together.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions at 315.986.1400 x1
or my personal cell phone at 585-230-2649.

What should we do about the programs or classes we signed up for?
Been doing walkarounds at TOPS and Dollar General once a day. I am protected when I do this. The purpose is to advise every one of what is NOT there. I see some others are doing this It flattens the curve somewhat. It creates less stress on people that come there looking for items that are not there in the first place. Easier social distancing, due to smaller crowds, Easier for employees to stock shelves, Saves people time and transportation expenses. Be well and stay safe.
