Wamego Aquatic Center is closed due to lightning. We will NOT be re-opening for day swim or indoor. Opening for the Pool Party is still to be determined. Hope you can come swim with us tomorrow!

☀️ SAFE SUMMER IN WAMEGO ☀️

This week’s Safe Summer topic has been Pool Safety & Swimming Independence, and today we’re excited to partner with the Pottawatomie County Health Department to help keep swimmers safe in the sun!

The Health Department will be at the Wamego Aquatic Center around 2:00 PM providing free sunscreen while supplies last.

Thank you to the Pottawatomie County Health Department for supporting Safe Summer in Wamego and helping families enjoy a safe day at the pool.

As a reminder coloring pages can be picked up at City Hall, the Wamego Public Library, and the Wamego Area Chamber of Commerce. Fill it out and share it with the City of Wamego to get entered into a drawing for some one-day passes to the Wamego Aquatic Center!

UPDATE: The pool is closed for the remainder of the evening. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes!

The pool will be closed for the remainder of day swim (until 6pm). We will try to re-evaluate to hopefully open at 6pm for water walking, swim lessons, swim team and night swim. Please check back later this afternoon.

We are currently closed due to lightning in the area. Please check back to see when we can open back up.

Lightning is in the area. Please keep an eye to the weather and remember we close if lightning is within 15 miles. There are no refunds or free re-entrys if we have to close. Please plan accordingly!

⛈️ Quick weather reminder: If storms move into the area, kids are welcome to wait inside the indoor pool area until a parent or guardian can pick them up. However, no swimming is allowed during weather delays—even indoors.

Summer in Wamego means lots of time at the pool — and for many kids, that also means more independence and responsibility.

This week’s reminders:

🏊 SWIM WITH A BUDDY
Talk with kids about staying with a friend at the pool and checking in with each other throughout the day. Having a buddy nearby means someone can get help quickly during an emergency.

🚨 LIFEGUARDS ARE HELPERS
Remind kids that lifeguards are there to keep everyone safe — not to get kids in trouble. Encourage them to speak up if someone needs help or is making unsafe choices.

🌊 KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Encourage kids to stay in water where they feel safe and confident. This is also a great time to talk about avoiding unsafe risks or trying to impress friends.

⛈️ EXTRA HOMEWORK FOR PARENTS
If your kids spend time at the pool independently, make a simple bad weather plan together:
• Who should they call?
• Where should they go if storms happen suddenly?
• Do they know important phone numbers if their phone dies or gets wet?

We are going to open the indoor pool at 1pm and the outdoor pool at 1pm!! Can’t wait to see everyone at the Wamego Aquatic Center!!

Unfortunately, we are going to delay the opening of the indoor pool, due to lightning in the area. We will keep an eye on the storms for the outdoor pool and update this post on indoor pool opening time.

Due to low temperatures and the rain forecasted throughout today, the Outdoor Pool will be closed. However, you can still swim at the Indoor Pool so please come see us!
