This program is made possible through a grant designed to bring EMS education opportunities to rural communities across Kansas.

We are proud to announce that Pottawatomie County EMS is the first agency in Kansas to host an Advanced EMT program funded through this grant. This cohort will provide advanced EMS education for four Pottawatomie County EMS personnel and two Dickinson County EMS personnel.

A special congratulations goes out to our team members taking this next step in their EMS careers: Anne Bruns, Zach Davis, Abby Larson, and Jaclyn Schoening. Your commitment to professional growth and excellence in patient care will have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

We wish all of the students success as they begin this exciting journey and look forward to seeing their accomplishments throughout the program.

June 1–7 is National CPR & AED Awareness Week!

Every year, thousands of lives are saved because ordinary people take action before EMS arrives. Knowing how to perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can make the difference between life and death during a cardiac emergency.

At Pottawatomie County EMS, we encourage everyone to take the time to learn these lifesaving skills. Immediate CPR and early defibrillation significantly improve a person's chance of survival following sudden cardiac arrest.

✅ Learn CPR
✅ Know where AEDs are located
✅ Be prepared to act
✅ Every second counts

Together, we can build a safer and more prepared community.

Last night’s structure fire response was an outstanding example of the teamwork and cooperation that exists among public safety agencies in Pottawatomie County.

Pottawatomie County EMS personnel stood by to provide medical support for responders and any potential victims.

Incidents like this highlight the importance of strong partnerships, training, and communication between fire, EMS, and law enforcement. When emergencies occur, these agencies come together with a common mission: protecting lives, property, and our community.

Most importantly, we are thankful that no injuries were reported.

Thank you to all personnel involved for your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving Pottawatomie County.

At roughly 8pm on May 30, 2026, PCCFD #1- Station 10- St George was dispatched to a working structure fire in the area of John Scott and Grantham Roads. Our pumper was first to arrive and made a quick exterior knock down then moved interior to check for extension. Automatic aid was received from Blue Township Fire Department and Louisville Township Fire Department. Later tanker support was requested from Belvue Township Fire Department . On scene support was also provided by Pottawatomie County EMS, Pottawatomie Co Sheriff's Office, and Kansas Fire Marshal. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

As we close out EMS Week, today’s theme is EMS Remembrance Day — a day to honor and remember those who dedicated their lives to serving others through emergency medical services.

Today we remember our late Director, Joel Fager.

Joel’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving the people of Pottawatomie County left a lasting impact on this department, this community, and the countless lives he touched throughout his career. His legacy continues to live on through the providers he mentored, the service he helped build, and the mission we continue to carry forward every day.

EMS is more than a profession — it is a family. And today, we pause to remember one of our own.

Thank you, Joel, for your service, your sacrifice, and your leadership. You are deeply missed, but never forgotten.
