On this Giving Tuesday we want to give thanks to everyone who has contributed this year from each person who took the time to help a bird, to the volunteers and interns that cared for hundreds of patients, and to the many donors who gave generously. Our year has been busy and is still ongoing. We had the joy of returning many birds to the wild in-between releasing two adult bald eagles. Check our Instagram for a video of the second eagle and other birds from this year. We could not do this without your help. Thank you!

The Avian Wildlife Center has been able to purchase incubators essential for nestlings and injured birds through a program with BabyWarm. We need to purchase a larger incubator to accommodate raptors, herons, and other species. The new incubator has some added safety features, and having it will give the best chance of survival to the birds in our care. If you are able to donate and help spread the word, we appreciate your support! Thanks for helping us keep baby animals warm! https://www.babywarm.org/rehabber/giselle-s-2/

We are thankful to our summer interns who helped us care for hundreds of birds this summer. They made a tremendous difference feeding, treating, cleaning, updating records, and more from the tiny nestlings to the larger raptors.

Birds and Fireworks do not mix.
We hope all of you will enjoy a safe 4th of July throughout the weekend events. Please remember caution with fireworks. We have already received one bird frightened out of a tree due to fireworks and had a call this afternoon about a young bald eagle (recently fledged from a nest) that people were afraid might have been injured when a firecracker went off near it.

Looking for assistance for these Carolina wrens that just hatched. Their nest with 6 eggs was removed and brought to the Avian Wildlife Center. We put the eggs in our incubator. Their best chance for survival is to add them to an active Carolina wren nest with young the same age. If anyone knows of a potential location, please contact us by phone (973)702-1957 or email [email protected].

This chatty short-eared owl (pictured below), like many other birds we receive was hit by a car in October. It had a fractured wing, but with the help of our vet it is now healing and we hope to release it in the new year!

With your generous support we can continue to feed this owl and all the other raptors we have for the year to come. Any amount helps keep the birds fed.
