It’s Tick Talk Time!
Ticks are a natural part of our ecosystem, but they can sometimes carry diseases. So here are a few simple ways you can stay tick safe outdoors!
🚶Stay on the trail
Ticks can’t fly or jump! They hang on vegetation. To avoid them, walk in the middle of the trail.
🧦Cover up
Ticks need exposed skin to latch on to. So wear light-weight long pants, long sleeves, and tuck your socks into your pants.
✅Use tick repellent
Use an EPA-registered tick repellent on skin or clothing, and always follow the label directions.
🔎Do a thorough tick check afterward
After spending time outside, check your body for ticks, especially around ankles, behind knees, under arms, and along the hairline
🚿Take a hot shower after outdoor adventures
Showering can help wash off ticks before they attach.
If you find a tick attached, remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers or a tick key. Please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for safe tick removal information.
