Auglaize County signed on to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 2020 to give our children the best start in life. Dolly was inspired by her dad, who couldn’t read or write, and today we're celebrating that our county is serving more than 2,000 of our county's youngest residents.

We've heard from local residents who want to help ensure the Imagination Library lives on to honor Dolly Parton's memory. While our hearts remain incredibly sad, we’re more inspired than ever to continue this important mission, especially after hearing from the many of you who have reached out. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, almost 2,000 children in Auglaize County, OH find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

We join the rest of the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton. We are a proud Local Program Partner of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, that today provides books to more than 1,950 children in Auglaize County.

Exciting news!

NASA Astronaut Don Thomas will welcome runners!

Run To The Moon organizers are thrilled to announce NASA Astronaut Don Thomas as the special guest for the 2026 Run To The Moon!

Donald A. Thomas (Ph.D.) served as a NASA Astronaut (1990-2007). He is a veteran of four Space Shuttle missions, three aboard Columbia and one aboard Discovery. He has spent 44 days in space completing nearly 700 orbits of the Earth and traveling 17.6 million miles. He is a private pilot with over 250 hours in single engine land aircraft and gliders, and over 800 hours flying as mission specialist in NASA T-38 jet aircraft.

Dr. Thomas was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Graduated from Cleveland Heights (Ohio) High School, in 1973; received a bachelor of science degree in Physics from Case Western Reserve University in 1977, and a master of science degree and a doctorate in Materials Science from Cornell University in 1980 and 1982, respectively. After retiring from NASA, Don became the director of the Hackerman Academy of Mathematics and Science at Towson University working to encourage and inspire young Maryland students about the wonders of science and mathematics, to encourage them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to energize and prepare teachers in these disciplines.

Thomas will count down the race start for both 10K and 5K runners and will be on hand to high-five runners as they come back to the museum grounds!
