Congratulations to our very own Firefighter Jared Wigdor on being issued a Life Saving Award for his response to a serious motor vehicle accident while on duty for his career Fire Department.
At approximately 1815 hours on November 14, 2025, Medic 1 of the Kingston Fire Department was dispatched on a mutual aid assignment to the West Hurley Fire District for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian with serious injuries. Upon arrival, Medic 1 was the only EMS unit on-scene and was immediately confronted with a complex and critical situation involving two severely injured patients.
One patient was found entrapped in a vehicle, suffering from a significant leg injury caused by intrusion from a guardrail into the passenger compartment. A second patient, a pedestrian who had been struck by the vehicle, was located approximately 200 feet away and was also critically injured. With two critical patients, no medical helicopters available, and an extended response time for additional advanced life support resources, the scene required immediate leadership, coordination, and decisive medical action.
Despite the absence of air medical transport, both patients were successfully stabilized and transported by ground ambulance to HealthAlliance Hospital for definitive care. The combined efforts of Firefighter Carlucci and Firefighter Paramedic Wigdor were instrumental in managing a complex, multi-patient emergency and directly contributed to the positive outcomes for both patients.
This Life Saving Award is presented in recognition of Firefighter/EMT Dominic Carlucci and Firefighter/Paramedic Jared Wigdor for their decisive actions, exceptional medical skill, and leadership under extreme circumstances. Their professionalism, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to protecting life reflect the highest standards of the fire and emergency medical services and bring great credit upon themselves and the Kingston Fire Department.
