Waquoit Bay is a representative example of shallow bays throughout the Northeastern U.S., so research here improves the understanding of these areas in general and promotes stewardship of the coast throughout the region. Today, the Reserve continues to work with partners to preserve land and water and related ecosystems, investigate compelling issues facing our coast, and provide education to students, teachers, coastal decision-makers and community members.

This week, the Falmouth Housing Trust held an event to celebrate and honor several individuals and organizations, including MA Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), WBNERR, and the 300 Committee Land Trust, who worked together in a unique partnership to acquire a 3.8-acre property that will address two important needs: conservation of natural resources and affordable housing.

DCR and WBNERR worked on providing funds for 2.7 acres of property that are now part of the Reserve. The remaining 1.1 acres are being developed into five affordable housing units by the Falmouth Housing Trust.

The DCR Commissioner, Nicole LaChapelle, attended and spoke at the event, also in attendance were Tonna-Marie Rogers, Manager of the Waquoit Bay Reserve, Ryan Clark, Stewardship Coordinator, and several other DCR staff including Land Protection Specialist, Shaun Provencher, and Communications Director, Chloe Gotsis.
