From your crew at Marion County Rescue Squad. Here are some heart attack myths we hear all the time. Let’s bust them!

❌ Myth: Heart attacks always come with crushing chest pain.
✅ Fact: Many start with mild pressure, nausea, shortness of breath, jaw or back pain, or extreme fatigue.

❌ Myth: Heart attacks mostly affect men.
✅ Fact: Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, and symptoms are often different.

❌ Myth: You would definitely know if you were having one
✅ Fact: Some heart attacks are “silent” and feel like indigestion, anxiety, or the flu.

❌ Myth: If symptoms are mild, it can wait.
✅ Fact: Waiting even 10 to 15 minutes to call 911 can affect outcomes.

❌ Myth: Nothing can be done until you reach the hospital.
✅ Fact: EMS begins lifesaving care the moment we arrive.

Trust your instincts.
If something feels off, call 911.

Please share. Busting one myth could help save a life! 🚑
