The Wareham Department of Natural Resources would like to congratulate Wareham Natural Resource Officer Nicholas Brogioli and the entire 2nd Recruit Officers Class of the MPTC Falmouth Police Academy!

Officer Brogioli, in addition to the countless hours of strenuous training welcomed a beautiful and healthy daughter to their family during the height of his training. To say the least, this was a very busy time for the Brogioli family.

Officer Brogioli is a graduate of Wareham High School and Bridgewater State College. In addition, Officer Brogioli served in the United States Marine Corps for numerous years as well as a Deputy Harbormaster for the Town of Wareham prior to his deployment.

WDNR Officer Brogioli will be starting his first shift after a well deserved break to enjoy his family!

From all of us at the Wareham Department of Natural Resources and the Town of Wareham: Congratulations and job well done Officer Brogioli!!!

Just an fyi! It’s that time of year for putting out rabies vaccines.

**ATTENTION!** Distribution of oral rabies vaccine (ORV) baits in Plymouth and Barnstable Counties will begin tomorrow!

Beginning Tuesday, May 5, ORV baits will be distributed in select locations of Plymouth and Barnstable Counties. Plymouth, Wareham, Kingston, Carver, Middleboro, Lakeville, Middleborough, Rochester, Marion, Mattapoisett, Bourne, & Sandwich will all receive baits. Ground-vased distribution will occur from May 5th to May 8th. Helicopter distribution is set to begin May 12th and should last approximately 3 days, weather pending.

These baits are meant to be distributed in areas where terrestrial rabies vectors (ie. raccoons, foxes, and coyotes) frequent, and away from areas where domestic animals and people are likely to find them. The baits are typically not harmful to people or pets, but if a bait is found, please call 877-722-6725 to report where it was located. Additionally, we ask that you obey your town’s leash law as every bait that is picked up and consumed by a dog is one that is considered a lost dose – a dose that could have gone to an unvaccinated raccoon.

Thank you for your cooperation on this important project! Please follow the Cape Cod & Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force page for the latest information about rabies in southeast Massachusetts!

“It’s gonna be May!” Or whatever Justin Timberlake said😆

Anyhow, Spring has sprung and a few things need to be taken care of if you have a boat in town and be made aware of if you’re going shellfishing.

1. Yearly Harbor Service Permits were sent out April 1st and payment is due May 1st. After May 1st late fees will be applied.

2. All winter sticks must be removed by June 1st. Failure to do so will result in removal of the mooring, fine, and potential forfeit of your mooring location.

3. Per order of the Division of Marine Fisheries, we have numerous seasonal closures for shellfishing going into affect May 1st. Attached is the link to the shellfish map for your review.

4. Boating safety certificates are now a requirement if you intend to run a boat. Be sure to take your boating safety courses provided by the Massachusetts Environmental Police, USCG Aux, or online.

Implementation Dates:
• Born after Jan 1, 1989: Must comply by April 1, 2026 (enforcement begins Sept 1, 2026).
• Born on or before Jan 1, 1989: Must comply by April 1, 2028.

We wish you all a safe and amazing season!!!

Please be advised that the Town of Wareham has a town-wide parking ban for any snowfall of 3” or more from November 1 to April 1. All cars that are parked on public ways where the town maintains the snow removal must be moved or the vehicle will be ticketed and potentially towed if an owner cannot be located.

With the upcoming storm vehicles in Onset can utilize Temple Lot as well as the Onset pier if parking is needed. For downtown Wareham, there is a lot located across the street from Besse Park as well as the lot next to Wareham Fire Station.

Thank you all for your help!!

Over the weekend WDNR Officer Glennon was on patrol when a hunter complaint was received. Officer Glennon responded to the area and made contact with the hunters and inspection was conducted.

An inspection of the waterfowl in possession was conducted as well as the fi****ms that were all in compliance. The only violation found was that one of the hunters was not in possession or wearing a lifejacket while in a kayak.

The individual was explained the importance of a lifejacket especially on open and very cold water. In addition, there is a significant risk when wearing waders with no lifejacket. This creates an additional struggle and greatly reduces the amount of time you can tread water, especially in cold temperatures.

The hunter was issued a violation for the failure to comply with the lifejacket regulations, that is a zero tolerance violation. Please be smart and wear your lifejacket, from the start.

In addition to the interaction it just so happened that the parties are YouTubers and filmed Officer Glennon for their video. We appreciate that they document their outdoor adventures and that the interaction between all parties was handled with both courtesy and professionalism. It’s also a pretty cool channel! Please stay safe on future adventures.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
