Ocean County Fire and EMS Training Center

Ocean County Fire and EMS Training Center The goal of the Ocean County Training Center has always been to offer exceptional training to volunteers. Our recruit program is well over 200 hours in length.

From firefighters to emergency medical technicians, from law enforcement to Ocean County Vocational-Technical students, the Training Center provides top-notch hands on and classroom training opportunities for all Ocean County first responders. Courses are run throughout the year to train new volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Veteran volunteer firefighters and EMTs can also

take advantage of courses that will teach them the latest advances and techniques in these areas. Included at the training center site are an administration building, five classrooms, a break room and kitchen, an indoor dual overhead door training area, smokehouse, burn building, natural gas fire simulator, extrication pad staging area, drill tower, and control tower. The Fire Academy offers classes for recruit training where new firefighters are instructed in the classroom, then put through rigorous hands-on drills to gain the skills and knowledge needed to earn New Jersey State Firefighter Certification. In order to become an EMT, students need to complete 200 hours of classroom study and rigorous hands-on training in order to meet their EMT basic requirements and receive their certification. In addition to their classroom work and hands-on training at the center, students also spend 10 additional hours in a local emergency room assisting hospital personnel. Upon completion of the required curriculum, each student must score 70 percent or higher on a 100 question written final examination. Students must also pass a practical skills examination demonstrating that they are mentally and physically prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. 🚨 Active Shooter Operations Course – Ocean County Training Center 🚨

This week, we successfully delivered our 16-hour Active Shooter Operations Course at the Ocean County Fire & EMS Training Center.

The goal of this program is to bring together all emergency service disciplines and strengthen our ability to respond to active threat incidents through coordination, communication, and unified operations.

Throughout the course, participants covered:
🔹 Lessons learned from real-world incidents
🔹 Rescue Task Force (RTF) operations
🔹 Incident management & interagency coordination
🔹 K-9 & specialized response considerations
🔹 Tabletop scenarios & hands-on training exercises

This training is designed to focus on operational skills and decision-making not necessarily tactics ensuring responders from all disciplines can effectively work together in high-stress, rapidly evolving environments.

This course was developed with input from multiple agencies and disciplines, reinforcing a critical message:

Successful response to active threat incidents requires strong collaboration and communication across all responders.
