Butte Creek Fire Update | Saturday, July 26, 2025

Size: 2,079 acres
Cause: Undetermined
Total Personnel: 323
Containment: 70%

This will be the final daily update for the Butte Creek Fire unless fire activity changes. Northwest Incident Management Team 3 will work closely with a type 4 incident management team to ensure they have the information and resources needed to successfully transition command of the fire Sunday.

Yesterday, firefighters concentrated on securing hand lines, conducting patrols, and mopping up areas of heat that may impact the integrity of the fire line. Yesterday’s decreased humidity and stronger winds provided a good test for containment lines.

Today, firefighters will continue patrolling, mopping up, and extinguishing areas of heat near firelines.

Weather: Temperatures will stay warm today and west to northwest winds will gradually weaken, with gusts reaching up to 18 miles per hour. Overall, humidity levels are expected to decrease, but the potential for fire spread remains low. Smoke may be visible from within the fire perimeter as timber litter and dead debris on the forest floor are consumed.

Location: Butte Creek Fire is in steep, rugged terrain, about 1.5 miles west of Simnasho, Oregon on the Warm Springs Reservation. The fire is north of Warm Springs and east of highway 26 in the Beaver Creek drainage.

Closures: Highway 9 is fully open as of 8:00 PM Friday 7/25.

The closure on BIA Highway 9 will be lifted as of 8:00 PM tonight, July 25, 2025. The closure extended from the Simnasho exit off Highway 26 to Highway 3 junction by 3 Warriors Market. Implementation of the closure was necessary due to active firefighting operations, hazard tree mitigation, and to ensure safety for firefighters working on the Butte Creek Fire. Firefighters had great success felling trees and securing the containment line in this area.
