Larry Mullins Musings

Larry Mullins Musings Larry Mullins, a resident of Warminster for the past eight years, has combined a lifetime of community service with a successful business career.

He belongs to Progressives for Positive Change, a group dedicated to making our community and the world a better place for our children and grandchildren. His focus is on improving the use of our state’s financial resources, funding for education and protecting our water and other environmental issues

Born in Atchison, Kansas, Larry graduated with a BA in Philosophy from St. Ambrose College, Dave

nport, IA. He earned an advanced degree in Theology from Gregorian University, Rome, Italy. He was ordained to the Priesthood and was in ministry for 13 years. After leaving the ministry he married Lisa, his wife of 44 years. They have a son, Michael. He and his wife, Fran, have two sons, Jesse and Emmet. Larry entered the real estate profession in Florida and served as President and CEO of several Real Estate companies. In conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, he initiated “World Class Collier”; which effectively involved business people in the education system of Collier County, Florida. With a lifelong focus on helping people, Larry has served as officer or board member for a variety of community organizations, including a homeless shelter, a community school, a community educational foundation, and a hospice. He was a Commissioner on the State of Florida Affordable Housing Study Commission. Larry's concern, that allowing politicians to run unopposed can lead to elected officials losing touch with the residents of their district, led him to run for the 29th District State Assembly. He ran a successful write-in campaign and is on the ballot in November as the Democratic candidate.

FRANK FEINBERG PERSONIFIES WISDOM, GENEROSITY, ACTION: KEY INGREDIENTS IN LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE AND CAMPAIGNS

For me, the three attributes mentioned above personify FRANK FEINBERG who led my campaign for state rep.

In my life time, rarely have I seen a person run an enterprise and create so much from resources so modest, but so overflowing in enthusiasm and commitment from volunteers, neighbors from Ann's Choice and from folks from all around the district. And don't forget the love of community, state and country that went far beyond themselves and motivated them.

Frank spearheaded the effort, orchestrated it, and taught this rookie in ways he had never expected. I was so blessed. I m so grateful to him as are all of us who experienced the direction of this maestro.

Finally, he heads up the Warminster Township Democratic Organization and brought help from it and its members and from the Bucks County Democratic Organization.

Thanks, Frank. While we didn't prevail, no way did we fail. We have molded a viable band of dedicated citizens, who look to the future. We'll be there.

ELECTION OVER---"FALLING UPWARD."

We didn't prevail in the election for the PA 29th District of the House.
But we didn't fail:
we succeeded in receiving nearly 40% of the vote;
we showed that there are lots of people in the district who
not content with the status quo and want change in the
way business is done in Harrisburg;
we saw the gravity of the financial status of the state and wondered just how this could have happened, that the state's infrastructure is being neglected, our educational efforts are so often not adapted to the needs and jobs of the future.

We experienced a new start here amid the remnants of the presidential election. We made some noise. We attracted some attention. We're watching issues closely. We're aware. We can do more to help birth new enthusiasm for our party in District 29.

We're "falling upward." A productive but disappointing outcome can be a building block for the future.

We didn't prevail, but we didn't fail.

THANKS TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED OUR EFFORT, TO ALL WHO ARE DEDICATED TO A BETTER FUTURE.

ROBO CALLS AND EXPERIENCE

Robo calls can helpful in a campaign. While I haven't mentioned my incumbent opponent, Bernie O'Neill, to date, I do now. Apparently, his campaign made robo calls in our area telling folks in effect that they should not vote for Larry Mullins because he has no experience. Bernie O'Neill does. Well, I might not have any experience serving in a legislature, but believe me I have lots of good experience and common sense over an exciting span of life.

Who would want a legislator to be elected again who, with his Republican colleagues, has visited the State of Pennsylvania with fiscal irresponsibility that has been observed by Moody's and Standard and Poors who has lowered our states bond five times in the past three years costing us taxpayers dearly. That "experience" has been noticed by Mercatus (George Mason University) who say bluntly that Pennsylvania has virtually no "rainy day fund" in case of a downturn in the economy or natural catastrophe (ranking 47 out of 50 states). Much more could be listed--try our roads and bridges and dams in sad need of repair. Or water and environmental issues that need attention.

Experience, Mr. ONeill? We've had enough of your experience. We can't afford it. Time for a change.

HOWEVER MUCH WE SEPARATE THE PRESSING ISSUES OF OUR STATE-- BUDGET, PENSION, EDUCATION, INFRASTRUCTURE, ENVIRONMENT--PENNSYLVANIA IS A FISCAL NIGHTMARE.

Current budget revenue has already hit a snag; the state pensions remain woefully underfunded; the "fair deal" on education funding distribution distracts from fact that education is not yet adequately funded; state bridges, roads, dams cry out for restorative action; urgent environmental issues ignored. The Republican dominated State Assembly beckons--"Return us to Harrisburg!"

Question: How can we expect those who got us into this mess to get us out?

COMMENTS ON THE REMARKS OF THE LEADER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND A CHALLENGE TO REP. BERNIE O'NEILL

I think that the people of our country are heartsick and troubled by the newly released video of Mr. Trump and his sickening remarks which bluntly expressed his attitude about women. He seemed to revel in being a "star" who can do "anything" with women. I condemn his remarks, attitude and entire stance on this matter.

I challenge Rep. O'Neill, incumbent, PA House District 29, to also condemn the statements and views expressed by his party's leader in saga of the video and distance himself from Mr. Trump as other leaders of his party have done.
