Update:

Initial reports indicated that there were two victims. However, there was one student injured by gunfire. That student was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is now in custody. The school is secure. Two students have been transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. This is still an active investigation. No further information is available.

There is a significant law enforcement presence due to a shooting on campus. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow first responders to safely perform their duties.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Elizabeth Magpuntay and Deputy Jasmine Wright on successfully completing the Basic Communications Course at GPSTC this past Friday!

Completing this course is an important milestone in their careers, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. We are excited to have them serving the citizens of Houston County as part of our Communications Division.

We would also like to give a special shout-out to Lt. Mobley with the Peach County Sheriff's Office for passing the course as well. Congratulations! We are proud of our sister agency and wish you continued success.

Please join me in welcoming our newest members of the Houston County Sheriff's Office family!

Congratulations to Tara Edmonds, Genesis Lowe, Miracle West, Cheyenne Pickett, Lilly Youngblood, Nataevia Seyton, Rashel Henderson, Courtney Long, and Michael Lange, Jr. as they begin their careers as Detention Deputies with the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

Working in a detention center is one of the most challenging and demanding jobs in law enforcement. It requires professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, compassion, and the ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment. Our Detention Deputies play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of our facility while treating every individual with dignity and respect.

I am excited to watch each of these men and women grow in their knowledge, develop their skills, and excel in their careers. They are joining an outstanding team of professionals who are committed to serving our community with honor every single day.

As students head back to the classroom today, our SROs are already on campus, ready to help ensure a safe and positive learning environment for everyone.

Whether they're building relationships with students, assisting school staff, or responding when needed, our School Resource Officers are committed to protecting our schools and serving our community.

We wish all students, teachers, staff, and parents a safe, successful, and amazing school year!

Welcome Back to School, Houston County! 🚌🍎

Today marks the first day of a new school year! As students, teachers, and school staff head back to the classroom, we ask everyone to do their part to help keep our roads safe.

🚸 Please remember:
• Slow down in all school zones and obey the posted speed limits.
• Stop for school buses when required by law. Those flashing red lights mean children are getting on or off the bus.
• Put your phone down and stay alert. Distracted driving puts everyone at risk.
• Watch carefully for children crossing streets, walking on sidewalks, and riding bicycles, especially during the morning and afternoon hours.
• Leave a little earlier and be patient. Traffic will be heavier during the first few weeks of school.

Let's work together to make this school year a safe one for every student, teacher, bus driver, and family.

As we begin preparing for the 2nd Annual Sheriff Cullen Talton Memorial Golf Tournament, I want to personally ask our community to come together once again to support one of the most meaningful missions we have as Georgia sheriffs; the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes.

For more than 60 years, the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes have provided safe, stable, and loving homes for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or family crisis. These children are given far more than a place to live. They are given hope, guidance, education, and the opportunity to build a brighter future.

Here in Houston County, we believe every child deserves to know they are valued, loved, and supported. That is why the men and women of the Houston County Sheriff's Office are proud to stand behind the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes. Supporting these children isn't just something we do; it's part of who we are. We are committed to investing in their future and ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed.

The 2nd Annual Sheriff Cullen Talton Memorial Golf Tournament is more than a golf tournament. It is an opportunity for our community to honor the legacy of Sheriff Cullen Talton while making a lasting difference in the lives of children who need us most.
