🌞 End Summer on a High Note... Not Driving High

As summer comes to a close, remember that impaired driving doesn't just mean alcohol. Ma*****na and other drugs can slow your reaction time, affect your judgment, and put everyone on the road at risk.

Make a plan before you go:

🚗 Have a sober driver.
📱 Use a rideshare or taxi.
🏠 Stay where you are until you're sober.

Make smart choices so everyone can get home safely.

As students and teachers prepare to head back to school tomorrow, we'd like to remind everyone to slow down and stay alert in and around school zones.

Our officers will be conducting extra patrols in school zones throughout the city. These efforts are focused on keeping our children, parents, school staff, and crossing guards safe as they travel to and from school.

Please remember:
🚸 Obey posted school zone speed limits.
🛑 Watch for children crossing the street or walking near roadways.
📵 Put distractions away and stay focused on driving.
⏰ Leave a few minutes early so you don't feel rushed.

A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make all the difference. Let's work together to ensure every child has a safe start to the new school year.

2:34PM - The roadway is back open and traffic has resumed as normal.

🚨TRAFFIC ALERT | NW EXPRESSWAY CLOSED🚨

NW Expressway is currently shut down between MacArthur Boulevard and Meridian Avenue due to a traffic crash.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route while emergency crews work the scene.

Please drive safely and give first responders room to work.

🌧️ Rain is falling across Oklahoma today. Slow down and give yourself extra time to reach your destination safely.

• More than 570,000 crashes occur annually during rain or mist conditions.
• Rain-related crashes result in over 2,800 deaths each year.

The speed limit is set for ideal driving conditions. When roads are wet, drivers should reduce their speed, increase following distance, and allow extra time to stop.

A few extra minutes on your drive is better than a crash that could change lives forever.

Please slow down, stay alert, and arrive safely.

From May 11 through May 31, our department will be participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

During this enforcement period, officers will be actively enforcing Oklahoma seat belt and child restraint system laws throughout our community.

Seat belts and proper child restraints save lives every day. Taking a few extra seconds to buckle up yourself and ensure children are properly secured can make all the difference in a crash.
