Multiple teams of firefighters from Sierra Army Depot are assisting efforts to combat wildfires in several locations in Lassen County near Susanville, California -- approximately 35 miles northwest of Sierra Army Depot, since mid-August.

Those fires are collectively dubbed “North Complex Fire” and includes a series of three fires: “Sheep”, “Bear” and “Claremont”.

Sierra Army Depot firefighters are also helping respond to the “Red Salmon” fires – approximately 166 miles northwest of the depot.

Combined, the fires have burned approximately 30,000 acres of land. An earlier wildland fire – named “Hog Fire” – burned another 10,000 acres outside of Susanville in mid-July.

The 40-hour course ended Aug. 20 with operator and maintenance blocks of instruction at the 81st Readiness Division's New Equipment Fielding Facility. Class size was reduced to about half to ensure safety due to COVID-19 restrictions. Students maintained six –foot distance when possible and wore facemasks when unavoidable.

We have been inundated with e-mails from folks asking "Are Cubs fans allowed to be Masked COVID Avengers??" To which, after some rather lengthy consideration and careful review of the MCA guidelines and bylaws, which were established only moments ago, the answer is an irrefutable "maybe."

In this case, the Masked COVID Avenger is none other than our very own German Ruiz!!

So, with a nearly unanimous vote to approve, we're happy to announce that German Ruiz from TACOM's Integrated Logistics Support Center is in!!

You, too, can be a Masked COVID Avenger!!

It's easy and requires little to no paperwork on your part. It's a great way to help stop the spread of germs as we all battle COVID-19. And it's a requirement in Michigan and anytime you're on the Detroit Arsenal in a public area.

HOT SKOT -- Our PdM Sets, Kits, Outfits & Tools, or SKOT, is at it again! Last week, SKOT and its U.S. Army TACOM Integrated Logistics Support Center partners successfully fielded and trained Utilities Equipment Repairers (MOS 91C) on the Fire Suppression Refill System (FSRS) at the Ordnance School, U.S. Army Fort Lee, Va. Delivering this much-needed capability to the Ordnance Corps is critical, as ultimately, troops all over the world will have the ability to refill fire suppression and nitrogen bottles far forward on the battlefield. The Ordnance School is the Army's First Unit Equipped. This week, our SKOT team rolls on with introducing this new equipment to the force by conducting FSRS Instructor & Key Personnel Training. #GoOrdnance! #ALTSystem United States Army Ordnance Corps U.S. Army Acquisition Support CenterAssistant Secretary of the Army - Acquisition, Logistics & Technology

You, too, can be a Masked COVID Avenger! It's pretty easy to do, and is a great way to help stop the spread of germs as we all battle the spread of COVID-19. It's also a requirement when in public areas within the state of Michigan and on the Detroit Arsenal. Unable to social distance? #Maskup.

GIMME SOME RIBs -- Could virtual fieldings be called the PEO version of Door Dash? Divers with the 7th Engineer Dive Detachment - U.S. Army in Hawaii are getting their fill of some awesome new RIBs thanks to a "touchless" delivery courtesy of our Sets, Kits, Outfits & Tools product managers and the U.S. Army TACOM's Material Fielding and Training organization. The whole team just completed virtual Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Level I fielding/deprocessing last week via Microsoft Teams. The video-to-video process was effective to complete same-day deprocessing, and the five-day operator training component was bolstered by Interactive Multimedia Instruction. Divers successfully completed operator training, which focused on both off- and on-shore operations. This virtual fielding replaced the original scheduled fielding dates, due in large part to travel restrictions. The RIB will improve the divers' ability to conduct diving operations in a variety of environments, and makes them more capable of deploying to a wider variety of locations. Congratulations and aloha to All! #DiveArmy! #DeepSea! #SappersIn! U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center, Assistant Secretary of the Army - Acquisition, Logistics & Technology

This Thursday Moment of Gratitude (TMG) goes out to all of the Masked COVID Avengers.

You, too can be a Masked COVID Avenger. It's pretty easy to do, and it's a great way to help stop the spread of germs as we battle the spread of COVID-19.

It's also a requirement when in public areas on the Detroit Arsenal and anytime you're not able to practice social distancing when working in your office.

The Masked COVID Avenger is Adam Crafard, TACOM Director, Safety and Occupational Health.

Don't forget to #MaskUp TACOM!

I was honored to be able to sit down with members of LULAC , Rep. Sylvia Garcia and Rep. Gil Cisneros today, to discuss the loss of Specialist Vanessa Guillen and issues that Service Members encounter. Her death has become catalyst for a nation-wide discussion on sexual harassment, sexual assault and workplace violence. I am directing an independent, comprehensive review of the command climate and culture – which will be led by experts not in or affiliated with DOD. We are committed to creating enduring change.

Today for the Thursday Moment of Gratitude, we are turning the tables a bit by asking you who you think we should recognize next. You can suggest anyone who works for the Army, as long as you feel that this person is making a difference and is an unsung heroine or hero.

We will recognize one of your recommended teammates each Thursday.

To submit a name simply send an e-mail to the TACOM Public Affairs mailbox at: [email protected] along with a brief statement about why we should recognize this person. You will be notified by e-mail if your person is selected and told when a post about them will appear.

The Thursday Moment of Gratitude is designed to recognize Detroit Arsenal teammates, who continue to provide outstanding support during difficult times. These are the folks, who go above and beyond to keep the Army mission going.

Today's Thursday Moment of Gratitude is in honor of Maj. Gen. Dan Mitchell, TACOM Commanding General, who will officially relinquish command of TACOM tomorrow morning to Brig. Gen. Darren Werner.

Sir, although we will not be able to attend the Change of Command in person, we want to send our best wishes to you and your family.

We have been strengthen and forever changed by your leadership, kindness and continuing efforts to help us stay focus on the Army mission. Because of you, Sir, we are stronger, more resilient and ready for the challenges ahead.

It is appropriate to end this post with a quote from Maya Angelou "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." Thank you for making us feel like part of the team.

Our Thursday Moment of Gratitude (TMG) goes out to the Red River Army Depot Fire Department team, part of the TACOM family, who recently supported the Bowie County Fire Department in putting out a fire just outside of New Boston, Texas.

We want to close this post with a quote from Chief Kennedy, a firefighter, who said "People are always asking me how is it that firefighters run into a burning building when everyone else is running out. Courage is the answer."

Thanks for having the courage to be not only #Army Strong, but the best of the best.

Trying times always make it a little more difficult to be grateful, but as we head into the Memorial Day weekend, we would like to thank the men and women, who are part of our Nation's Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment and dedication.

They remind us everyday that we are truly in this together.

Have a great Memorial Day, and please read Maj. Gen. Mitchell's and Command Sgt. Maj. Charles' Memorial Day message to the Detroit Arsenal workforce. You can find the message at
