To the HCCSC Community:

I am writing to provide an update on my health journey and leadership status with HCCSC. As you are all aware, I had a cancer diagnosis last winter. Since then, I have undergone several months of extensive outpatient treatments, and I have fortunately had positive results with these various therapies.

I am pleased to share that today I have received the best news possible as my oncologist has informed me that I am in complete remission. Therefore, I am fully committed to continuing my regular duties and responsibilities as the HCCSC Superintendent for this upcoming school year.

I am so grateful for the support of our community and the many HCCSC staff and administrators who stepped-up to shoulder additional responsibilities during my qualified FMLA leave this summer. I also greatly appreciate the continued prayers and well wishes from so many of you, as they continue to be a source of great strength and encouragement to me.

Sincerely,

John D. Trout
HCCSC Superintendent

For Immediate Release:

March 13, 2024

Late this morning, we received word that a couple of individuals at our Huntington Walmart were soliciting personal information on behalf of HCCSC encouraging individuals to register their incoming kindergarten students starting April 1 for the 2024-25 school year.

Through my investigation of this incident today, I learned that this activity was being done by a company that we as a school district have partnered with since the 2023-24 school year to assist us in the recruitment of students to our school district. Even though this may be a strategy that has been helpful in other school districts, at no time did I, or the HCCSC School Board, give permission for this type of canvassing activity to occur within our school district. Several meetings with this company have occurred, and this strategy was never discussed, nor would have I approved it for our school district if it was discussed with me.

I will assure our community that steps have already been taken to stop all such canvassing activity immediately and that this incident was isolated for just a few minutes this morning at one location. I am also actively exploring taking the necessary steps to terminate our relationship with this company. I am deeply sorry for any hardship this incident has caused.
