While many individuals were canning hot peppers in the Mahoning Valley, they weren't known to the general public until the early 1960's. That's when bartender extraordinaire, Joe Salerno, brought them to the attention of "Greenie" Abruzzi of Abruzzi's Cafe 422 restaurant in Warren, Ohio. Thereafter, the hot peppers became a specialty at "the 422" and soon at almost every other independent restaura

nt in the area. Abruzzi's Cafe 422 was sold in 2006 after being in the Abruzzi family since 1939, when it was founded by partners, Guerino "Greenie" Abruzzi and Orazio Rossi. To carry on the "pepper" tradition, Robert & Marilyn Abruzzi started Abruzzi's Hot Peppers LLC in 2009.
