It was a fest full of fun and fellowship Dec. 15 when our PdM Force Sustainment Systems held its holiday party to celebrate the season. PdM FSS is part of our PM Expeditionary Energy & Sustainment Systems, and its professionals deliver expeditionary force sustainment equipment like base camps and other shelter systems, airdrop, as well as field feeding and field services systems. Our PdM FSS teammates also evaluate future technologies in a live Soldier environment to reduce energy demand and logistics burden on base camps at the Future Capabilities Integration Laboratory.

We are excited to hear the news that our own LTC Benjamin Boring has been selected as the winner of the Product Management/Product Director Office Professional of the Year (O5 Level) in the 2022 Army Acquisition Executive's Excellence in Leadership Awards!
This is a high honor and we’re very proud of Ben, as the pool of candidates this year was especially competitive. LTC Boring stood out with his exemplary performance in leading a team of more than 200 personnel in the ex*****on of eight Defense Acquisition Programs covering Acquisition Categories I to IV. Under his exceptional leadership, our Multi-Mission Protected Vehicle Systems (MPVS) product management team executed successful prototype testing of the Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle followed by a Milestone C approval and Full Rate Production approval; and resolved test issues with the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles A2 variant. In addition to fielding nearly 600 vehicles, he and his team also provided top-notch, rapid support to Allies and Partners.
LTC Boring and other selectees will be recognized at the Annual Acquisition Awards Excellence in Leadership Ceremony in January. Congratulations!

Product Manager Force Sustainment Systems wrapped U.S. Army TACOM Logistics Assistance Representative and Materiel Fielding and Training Teams operator and maintainer training on the Laundry Advanced System (LADS) last week at the Future Capabilities Integration Lab, Fort Devens, Mass. LADS is managed by our PdM Force Sustainment Systems, part of our PM Expeditionary Energy and Sustainment Systems. LADS can launder the clothing of 500 Soldiers per day in the field using a dry-to-dry process which washes, extracts, and dries clothing in the same drum. The laundry water is reused and recycled via distillation to minimize water consumption and wastewater generation. LADS uses 400 gallons of water per day vs. the 20,000-plus gallons of its predecessor laundry unit.

The Defense Department recognized more than two dozen individuals and teams for contributing to the advancement of departmentwide information technology goals.
COL Kathy Brown, our PM Expeditionary Energy & Sustainment Systems, along with members of her PdM Force Sustainment Systems team, recently visited the Bluegrass Army Depot to learn more about its capabilities and in particular, the Care of Supplies in Storage for PdM FSS-managed Force Provider equipment. While there, they received an overview of the facility and plan for the production of Force Provider modules. Force Provider is an expeditionary base camp that provides state-of-the-art life support for 150 deployed personnel.
Additionally, the depot recently wrapped development of a new storage area for the PdM FSS-managed Multi-temperature Refrigerated Container System (MTRCS). The new space will minimize storage wear and tear on MTRCS units stored there. MTRCS provides mission-critical refrigeration capability to simultaneously transport frozen and refrigerated products, including rations and medical supplies. Thanks for a productive, informative visit!

MOVING AHEAD -- Our PM Expeditionary Energy & Sustainment Systems' PdM Force Sustainment Systems team took to the Aberdeen Test Center recently to collaborate with testers on ground mobility testing of the Expeditionary Solid Waste Disposal System, or ESWDS. This followed successful performance testing of the ESWDS exhaust stack, proving a safe, solid design. ESWDS will provide on-site nonhazardous mixed solid waste disposal, and is a safer alternative to open burn pits and waste backhauling. It's designed for easy set up and will be operated by MOS-nonspecific Soldiers. Here, the mobility test centered on moving the ESWDS in TRICONs. Way to go!

Our team in PdM Petroleum and Water Systems (PAWS) has kicked off Tactical Fuel Distribution System (TFDS) prototype testing at the Nevada Automotive Test Center! Testing is expected to run through January 2023, and Soldiers from the 225th Engineer Brigade, Louisiana National Guard, collaborated with PdM PAWs earlier this month to provide valuable user feedback to help the team inform the systems' design. The TFDS is the Army’s newest tactical fuel distribution system that will replace M969s and M967s. It consists of a 5,000 gallon line haul tanker trailer, pulled primarily by the M1088 tractor, and features a 350-gallon pump to perform bulk transfer to other refueling systems or retail refueling to consuming platforms. The PdM PAWS team leveraged the Other Transaction Authority (OTA) to rapidly develop prototypes to enable the start of test. Way to go!

Our PdM Engineer Maintenance & Support Equipment team, in joint effort with PEO STRI Virtual Training Systems and Contractor AVT Simulation, completed the installation, testing, and fielding of 33 Dozer Construction Equipment Virtual Trainer (CEVT) systems earlier this month to the U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood. The CEVT is implemented into the program of instruction for Engineer equipment operators. It provides Soldiers with a multitude of training scenarios and hands-on training in Dozer operations under various simulated environmental conditions. CEVT increases Soldiers’ skills, procedural knowledge and proficiency in operations while saving fuel and maintenance costs over operating Dozer systems. Here, Civilian and Military instructors receive familiarization training on the Dozer CEVT at the Engineer School.

Last week marked the end of an era when John “Woz” Wozniak, our deputy product manager for Army Watercraft Systems (AWS), retired after nearly 40 years of dedicated federal service. Our PM Transportation Systems, Wolf Petermann, officiated the ceremony, where Woz was presented a shadowbox in recognition of his service. This gift features a photo collage of Project Manager Transportation System’s portfolio, unit coins, and a flag flown aboard the U.S. Army Vessel Monterrey (LCU 2030), 329th Composite Watercraft Company, while underway for Logistical Support Operations with the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary), from Sept. 25 - Oct. 21, 2022. Additionally, the product management team presented him the Army Watercraft Systems’ Ship’s Wheel in appreciation for his support and service to both the Product Manager, Army Watercraft Systems, and Army Mariners while serving as DPdM AWS beginning in 2016. Our PdM AWS team manages more than 130 Army watercraft systems valued at more than $2 billion. Under his leadership, these professionals supported numerous Engineering Change Proposals and Service Life Extension programs for existing vessels, and well as acquiring new, modernized capabilities. All the best in your retirement! Fair winds and following seas, Woz! !
